About Us

Each year, the Carroll Center for the Blind helps nearly 1,300 blind or visually impaired children, adults and senior citizens gain the skills they need to live active and fulfilling lives. Our Newton campus houses our rehabilitation program, computer training classes, low vision store, and administrative offices. A large portion of our programs are services conducted in public schools, students’ homes, and their communities.

Position Summary

Are you ready to dive into the world of fundraising at a non-profit and make an impact from day one?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual for our Development Intern position at The Carroll Center for the Blind. You will have the valuable opportunity to learn from experienced professionals on our Development team. Our Development team strongly values mentorship and education to all members on the team, including you!

This internship is in-person at our campus in Newton, MA. Coming to campus will allow you to fully understand the direct impact your work will have at our organization. This internship will be offered for the fall semester with the opportunity to extend beyond this time. The responsibilities for this internship are split between database administration and event planning. Database Administration includes tasks related to maintaining biographical and donorship information. Event Planning includes preparing research and communications to support upcoming Carroll Center events.

Responsibilities

  • Database Administration:
    • Gain experience using our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, Raiser’s Edge (RE).
    • Update biographical information, enter donations, and support the goal of maintaining accurate and detailed records in RE.
    • Experience learning how to launch our Walk for Independence fundraising page and gift processing.
    • Assist with mailings.

  • Event Planning:
    • Draft communications to send to existing clients and alumni.
    • Research key pieces of information as needed (i.e. pricing, materials, vendors) related to upcoming events, such as our Fall Reception.
    • Assist with preparing marketing materials for upcoming events.
    • Help with logistics related to our annual fundraising event, the Walk for Independence (i.e. vendor and venue research).
    • Opportunity to plan and/or participate in corporate volunteer service days held on campus.
    • Help with other related tasks as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program majoring in Business, Communications, English, or Hospitality.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Strong writing,communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Willingness to ask questions and ability to take direction.
    • Showing initiative and follow-through in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
    • Raiser’s Edge experience is a plus.
