Purpose

Oversee the daily operation of the Maintenance Department. Goal is No down time of overall operation. Train, and certify regular and temporary employees on all maintenance equipment and procedures. Maintain the appropriate records and reports required for daily plant operation and daily maintenance works. Monitor employee job performance. Involve in policy making for continued process operation, improvement, and cost reduction. Ensure an orderly and safe workplace. Monitor and manage department labor and operation cost.

Essential functions-Job Duties: The following duties are considered essential to the job. Qualified individuals must have the ability-with or without reasonable accommodation to perform the following duties.

To ensure the safety and quality of the products that the line produces

  • Enforce all safety rules, procedures and practices, including conducting safety meetings periodically to reinforce the issue with all maintenance crew.
  • Direct management of superintendents, preparing work schedules, assigning specific duties, and verifying results. Enforce accuracy and completion of every maintenance work.
  • Monitor and report internal budgets on a consistent and regular basis to assess whether targets are being met.
  • Review and improve internal budget processes by monitoring the accuracy and timeliness of budget processes to identify areas for improvement and implement cost effective plans for department.
  • Communicate company direction to superintendents and maintenance crews to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure all equipment’s are operating in normal condition and communicate with the production managers of each shift regarding the condition and performance of equipment.
  • Supervise work assignment for all maintenance crew.
  • Perform necessary analysis, estimate, and preparation for all maintenance work such as repair, modification, improvement and new installation.
  • Supervise performance, operation, fabrication and workmanship of all maintenance crew.
  • Ensure all assignments to the crew are performed within the specified time frame and in accordance with proper procedure.
  • Supervises orders; assuring department receives necessary materials and parts for maintenance work.
  • Supervise purchasing, use, and inventory of parts (record inventory of major parts and materials) Keep records of the preventative maintenance inspection, repair and modification for all equipment. (Records must be kept for a possible OSHA Audit).
  • Ensure outside contractors, inspectors and sales persons conducting business with maintenance are following Nissin’s rules and regulations and are reporting all the details.
  • Keep accurate records of water usage, natural gas usage for each boiler, chemicals usage of maintenance. (Records must be kept for a possible audit.)
  • Prepare month end reports to major repair, topics, labor matters, utility usage and other maintenance issue.
  • Assist in proposing, planning and designing the capital investments, and estimate the cost of the investments.
  • Assist in executing and supervising the progress and completion of the capital investments.
  • Assist in completing the capital investment and filing the closed project report to list the capital investments to the asset book.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly maintenance area. Ensure sanitation rules are followed.
  • Effectively communicate to management, production, HR, QA or other departments with any areas of concern depending upon the situation.
  • Attend all required meeting and communicate to superintendents and all maintenance crew.

Secondary Functions - Job Duties: The following duties are considered secondary to the essential functions listed above.

  • Review daily production results, yield and loss.
  • Make arrangements for outside service works.
  • Audit all purchase orders and check requests.
  • Maintain an organizational chart.
  • Answer telephones and take messages.
  • Assist maintenance work as needed.
  • Take information and estimate required for maintenance work.
  • Supervise and assist special projects e.g. machine modification.
  • Praise / Discipline employees when situations arise.
  • Maintain knowledge of related to maintenance matters.
  • Follow the schedule of governmental or legal requirement issues.
  • Maintain most effective labor allocation and work schedule.
  • Decrease turnover, by recruiting and retaining quality employees.
  • Ensure all shifts have coverage in regards to staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Management Responsibilities: Directly supervises employees in the maintenance department. Responsibilities include training employees; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering or equivalent; or 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write and speak effectively in groups and is capable to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills: He or she must understand units that are used in the plant, gallons, litters, inches, meters, kilograms and pounds and others.

Computer Skills: Basic skills required. (Windows, Excel, Word, PLC (Mitsubishi, A&B) and Email)

Reasoning Ability: Must have the ability to apply common sense to understanding and carry out detailed written and oral instructions. Must have the ability to resolve and deal with problems involving a concrete variables in standardized situations within the production processing operation.
