Summary:

Leads laboratory project activities for the development of new products, processes, improvement of existing products and processes, and solving of specific problems relating to the manufacturing/quality of various products.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Plan and execute a technical approach to a complex problem based on product specifications, problem statement and/or desired product improvement. Work with customers to develop the problem statement and ensure performance of the product.
  2. Formulate resin systems on chemistry of resins. Interpret test results and other pertinent information to adjust formulation and/or process variables as needed.
  3. Has a solid understanding of composite material testing and behavior.
  4. Develop processes for the manufacturing of new or existing products.
  5. Supervise the work of laboratory technicians and trains them as needed.
  6. Record all formulations, observations and test results in detail to maintain the information in a manner such that other personnel could continue the project work.
  7. Coordinate and oversee production of new products, improvement of existing products and /or processes and problem-solving solutions.
  8. Collect project data to present progress report to cross functional teams/departments
  9. Make and execute recommendations for the improvement of manufacturing efficiencies, product quality, laboratory practices and safety issues. Provides lab leadership on safe handling of chemicals. Coordinates lab chemical waste as needed.
  10. Provide assistance to other departments as assigned.
  11. Search for new technologies relevant for existing or future projects through literature searches (patents, scientific articles), conferences, etc. Proposes new project approaches based on their findings.

Qualifications and Education (Required)

  1. Ph. D or Master of Science degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related engineering field
  2. 8+ years of experience working with composite materials, polymers, adhesives, resin formulations; preferred in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  3. Extensive knowledge of composite technology, formulation and mechanical/analytical testing is expected.
