The Assistant General Manager is primarily responsible for assisting the General Manager with the daily operations of the restaurant, including development and performance management of employees. In addition, they oversee the inventory and ordering of supplies, optimization of profits, and ensure that guests are satisfied with their dining experience at the Hall of Fame Village Gridiron Gastropub, a subsidiary of the publicly traded Hall of Fame Resort & Entertainment Company (NASDAQ: HOFV, HOFVW).


This position reports to the General Manager.


Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Provide superior guest service to visitors, guests, clients, vendors, and staff.
  • Assist in the oversight and management of all areas of the restaurant, making final decisions on matters of importance to guest service when the General Manager is not present.
  • Keeps General Manager promptly and fully informed of any and all issues, problems, unusual matters, matters of significance and positive events and takes prompt corrective action when necessary or suggest alternative courses of action.
  • Maintain a favorable working relationship with all company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate that is conducive to maximum employee morale, productivity, engagement, efficient, and effectiveness.
  • In conjunction with the HOFREco Marketing Department, attract patrons by developing and implementing marketing, advertising, and public and community programs.
  • Financial:
  • Monitor sales and expenses and understand business and financial principles.
  • Adhere to company standards and service levels to increase sales and minimize costs, including food, beverage, supply, utility, and labor costs.
  • Responsible for aiding in ensuring that all financial (invoices, reporting) and personnel/payroll related administrative duties are completed accurately, on time, and in accordance with company policy and procedure.
  • Operational:
  • Maintain operations by preparing policies and standard operating procedures, aiming for consistent productivity and quality.
  • Ensure proper security procedures are in place to protect employees, guests, and company assets.
  • Ensure a safe working and guest environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents.
  • Complete accident reports promptly in the event that a guest or employee is injured.
  • Manage shifts which include daily decision making, scheduling, and planning while upholding standards, product quality and cleanliness.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints concerning food quality and service.
  • Food and Safety Planning:
  • Responsible for ensuring consistent and high quality food service.
  • Maintain professional restaurant image including cleanliness, proper uniforms, and general appearance standards.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy facility by establishing, following, and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures.
  • Estimate food and beverage costs. Supervise portion control and quantities of preparation to minimize waste.
  • Place orders with distributors as applicable.
  • Ensure the restaurant is stocked with everything needed for staff and guests while carefully analyzing trends and making corrections as needed to ensure the cost of goods sold (COGS) are in line with industry standards.
  • Must be ServSafe certified.
  • Guest Service:
  • Ensure positive guest service in all areas.
  • Respond to complaints, taking any and all appropriate actions to turn dissatisfied guests into return guests.
  • Personnel:
  • Fill in for employees if emergencies arise possessing the ability to perform all functions of restaurant staff, including delivery when needed.
  • Provide direction to employees regarding operational and procedural issues.
  • Assist the General Manager in developing employees by providing ongoing feedback, establishing performance expectations, and participating in performance reviews.
  • Assist the General Manager to maintain an accurate and up-to-date plan of restaurant staffing needs.
  • Assist the General Manager in preparation of schedules and ensure that the restaurant is staffed for all shifts.
  • Assist during interview process, onboarding, and training of new hires as needed.
  • Assist in completion of annual performance reviews for staff.
  • Provide continuous feedback, supervision, and coaching.
  • Assist in formal discipline of staff in conjunction with General Manager and Human Resources.
  • Assist in creation and maintenance of schedules, assignments, and attendance.
  • Assist in time clock management, making adjustments and approvals as needed.
  • Respond in a timely manner to calls, text, inquiries, and emails.
  • Enforce uniform protocol.
  • Community Involvement:
  • Provide a strong presence in local community as well as enforcing a high level of community involvement by restaurant personnel.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements


Required Knowledge, Skills, & Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ minimum restaurant experience, preferably in management.
  • Must be ServSafe certified.
  • TIPS certification desired.
  • Must be proficient in restaurant functions: food planning and preparation, purchasing, sanitation, security, policy/procedure, personnel management, recordkeeping, and reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (nights, weekends & holidays as necessary) is required. Typical work week is 50 hours.
  • Valid drivers license required.
  • Must be a flexible and reliable team player, both within own department and entire organization.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of performance, working quickly without compromising qual
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate uncompromised judgment and discretion regarding confidential matters while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Must be pleasant, polite, and possess a neat and clean appearance.
  • Proven ability in Microsoft Office Suite, TOAST, SevenRooms, R365, etc.

Physical Requirements for Position:

  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • The ability to work in various Ohio weather conditions, inside and outside.
  • The ability to work with hot, cold, and hazardous equipment as well as operate phones, computers, copiers/scanners, and other office equipment.
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain, steps, or in construction zones.
  • The ability to see and respond to hazardous situations.
  • The ability to sit, stand, squat, bend, stop, twist, walk, and complete repetitive hand and write motions for periods of time as required for the position.
  • Must be able to hear, see, and speak.
  • Ability to comprehend instructions and retain information.
  • Must have manual dexterity necessary to complete all job duties.
  • Must be available to work in Canton, Ohio.
