2025 IT- Information Security Summer Internship Program

As a Technology Summer Team Member, you will play a vital role working alongside one of our many Technology Teams. In this role, you’ll utilize your skillset to help develop and enhance our in-house, industry-leading technology. Our technology allows our clients to succeed with industry-first applications, tools and support. You’ll also work on a summer-long project where you’ll collaborate alongside students with backgrounds & passions in software development, databases and infrastructures, cybersecurity, project management, and more!

The Information Security team at UWM is responsible for protecting the organization's information assets by implementing security measures, monitoring for threats, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards to safeguard data integrity and confidentiality.

What You Will Be Doing

• Hands on learning working with firewalls, WAFs, application security platforms and all the latest security platforms to implement and maintain security controls in an advanced technology environment.
• Support the programs and strategy developed by Security Leadership in accordance with the security roadmap and principles.
• Support Risk Assessments, Penetration Tests, Security Awareness Program, Due Diligence, Vendor Assessments, and Audits.
• Research security trends, compliance and regulatory updates, and security frameworks supporting a robust security program.
• Directly support a range of security disciplines and domains, including security awareness, compliance, regulatory, third-party security, risk, and others.
  
  

What We Need From You

• Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2025 or 2026 (current junior/senior status).
• The ability to work Monday thru Friday, 40-hours a week, fully on-site in Pontiac, MI from the end of May to mid-August.
• Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and excellent time-management skills.
• Ability to both thrive in a team environment and effectively work independently to complete assignments on time.
• Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to receive and apply feedback.
• Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills while being comfortable in a fast-moving environment.
• Ability to multitask and demonstrate adaptability and forward thinking in the face of technological or organizational change.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate complex technical issues and solutions in a clear, simple, and understandable way.
• Foundational IT knowledge in hardware, software, network and scripting.
• Familiarity with basic IT concepts such as the OSI model and CIA Triad
• Familiarity with standard security tools tools: port scanners, vulnerability scanners, attack proxies, metasploit, etc.
• Knowledge of Identity and Access Management concepts and technologies, such as SSO, MFA, LDAP, and RBAC.
• Experience in coding and/or scripting experience in Powershell, Java, JavaScript or similar scripting language and API development.

• Work examples of prior projects or experience related to this role.
• Prior experience performing activities related to relevant IT roles, such as: Security Analyst, Identity & Access Management, Cyber Analyst.
