Summary

The Downtown Coordinator is a key member of the destination communications and marketing team. This position ensures that operations of all downtown initiatives work to promote our community for the purpose of supporting engagement and economic vitality.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Establishes partnerships with local business owners, downtown property owners, non-profit organizations, and other community partners for the purpose of positively representing downtown development opportunities within the community
  • Fosters relationships with key stakeholders related to key initiatives
  • Collaborates with departments involved in improvements, coordinates communications to merchants, property owners, stakeholders, and residents
  • Provides information on available incentives, resources, and programs available to downtown merchants and property owners for the purpose of promoting new, existing, and expanding business opportunities within the downtown business district (e.g., SIZ grants, design services, etc.)
  • Develops and implements economic strategies to increase retailing in the downtown area, attracting new users into existing facilities and expanding market opportunities (e.g., Imagine Temple Downtown)
  • Serves as the point of contact with business owners, property owners and real estate agents for small business development
  • Serves as the first point of contact with business owners in the downtown commercial district facilitating requests, answering questions, and keeping them apprised about downtown happenings
  • Collaborates with marketing staff to contribute design and content development ideas related to downtown, social media accounts, campaigns, and collateral material
  • Participates in the development, coordination, and implementation of downtown special events
  • Coordinates aspects of the Texas Music Friendly Program
  • Coordinates the downtown art train program
  • Coordinates the downtown banner program
  • Maintains and edits website content to ensure webpages are current
  • Develops messaging for routine e-mail communications and electronic newsletter
  • Communicates information such as rehabilitation programs, existing state and federal funding sources and grant opportunities, administration procedures, political mechanisms, and legal tools as appropriate
  • Prepares and maintains a continuing record of the program through photographs (before and after) and/or slides, files on the building, business recruitment, promotions, and monthly reporting
  • Assists the Destination Marketing division and team with a variety of projects, events, and administrative support
  • Participates in professional organizations and marketing/sales information groups to advance knowledge and network with other industry professionals
  • Participates with off-site travel trade or consumer trade shows including organization, travel, set-up/tear down, and follow-up as assigned
  • Collects, reviews, and analyzes data to prepare reports, charts, and other presentations
  • Follows the city policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Combination of education & experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising, Mass Communication, or related area
  • Three (3) years’ related experience to include extensive experience in writing and marketing plan development, and social media platforms


Preferred Qualifications

  • Municipal government experience
  • Graphic design experience
  • Adobe Creative Suite experience


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Industry credential such as Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME through Destinations International) or other related hospitality/tourism professional certification preferred (CMP, CTA, CAE, CTE, TDM, CASE, etc.) - preferred
