Job Summary
The City of Greenville's Aquatics and Fitness Center is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable intern to join its team and gain valuable hands-on work experience.
This is an unpaid volunteer internship position , expected to work approximately 40 hours per week. Selected applicants should have a flexible schedule. College/University internship policies may require a minimum amount of hours in a semester in order to earn college credits. Please see your academic advisor or internship coordinator at your school for more information about internship requirements. If selected, applicants must show proof of student status and course of study.
Applications will be reviewed to ensure applicants meet the minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who meet minimum requirements will be referred to the Recreation & Parks Department's Aquatics and Fitness Center for further consideration.
The Aquatics and Fitness Center will contact applicants who appear to best meet the requirements and needs of the position.
Applicants will be required to complete information to conduct a background check. Applicants not completing this process or falsifying information on the application will not be considered for the internship position.
This is a continuous position and may close at any time
Examples of Duties
This position's primary responsibilities are to conduct fitness consultations, give weight and cardiovascular orientations, perform blood pressure checks, body fat and BMI screenings; conduct Wellness orientations for new City and Utilities employees; assist in youth and adult programming activities and assist with the development and implementation of Wellness programs. Duties depend on your major.

Education
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university majoring in Recreational Studies, Exercise Sciences, Public Health, or a closely related field to qualify for this position; and
- Must have successfully completed a minimum of four semesters and be in good academic standing.
Knowledge Of
- conducting blood pressure checks and 3-site skin fold body fat screenings (not required if you are a Public Health major)
- application and proper technique of cardiovascular and weight equipment to include free weights and fundamentals in Exercise Instruction (not required if you are a Public Health major)
- strong verbal and written interpersonal and communication.
- ability to work independently to develop and implement programs.
- Current CPR/First Aid and AED certification must be obtained within 3 weeks of the internship start date.
