Job Summary

Associate Business Analyst

This is an entry-level analyst role. The Associate Business Analyst supports the selection, design, implementation, and maintenance of critical components of technology to support Marriott International's consumer first strategy. This role will assist in integrating and advancing our technology platforms in alignment with our core business objectives and technical architecture.

This role receives work direction from senior leaders to deliver projects to successful completion, while maintaining scope within the time and budget constraints. In addition, it is expected that this role provides innovative and creative insights to solutions. The Associate Business Analyst will be leveraged to support analysis, implementation and testing as needed.

In this role you will function as an analyst in our data governance practice. An important part of the data governance team is defining, implementing, managing, and enforcing policies on proper handling of Marriott’s data. This includes use of data governance tool sets to support master data management, reference data management, metadata catalog, data lineage, data modeling, data profiling, data quality, data stewardship, and implementing aspects of data governance best practices.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education And Experience

Required:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience/certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate client/stakeholder needs into technology requirements, creatively approach solutions, and influence appropriate courses of action.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, impeccable organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
  • Excellent analytical skills where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult.
  • Thrives in a highly collaborative, matrixed, complex, fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated superb attention to details and ability to connect the dots.
  • Experience identifying and analyzing alternative solutions to complex business requirements and providing guidance and advice.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies, including those new to the Marriott environment as well as those that are new to the information systems industry.

Preferred:

  • Experience in developing software.
  • Experience in querying database using SQL or other query language.
  • Technology certifications.
  • Experience in Agile methodologies.
  • Knowledge of cloud data environments.
  • Previous experience in business/system analysis and working within IT to support the execution of projects.
  • Prior experience in data governance and/or use of data governance tools.

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Participates and may help facilitate business requirements analysis and functional design work sessions including creating business presentations, communications, and documentation.
  • Contributes to functional design including demonstrations to stakeholders to assist with validating approach.
  • Helps identify creative solutions to business requirements, analyzes alternatives, and provides recommendations.
  • Works with internal and external stakeholders to obtain additional insights, approaches, and demonstrations of solutions.
  • Works with the Global IT and other Marriott stakeholders during development to help clarify functional requirements and support functional design.
  • Supports development and administration of training and as appropriate.
  • Works with Scrum Masters, Project Managers and project leadership/stakeholders to support Agile and project management activities as directed.
  • Assists with collecting and addressing project/sprint backlogs and new requests.
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance the business partnership and planning processes.

IT Governance

  • Follows all defined IT standards and processes (i.e. IT Governance, SM&G, Architecture, SDLC, etc.), and provides input for improvements to the appropriate process owners as needed
  • Maintains a proper balance between business and operational risk
  • Follows the defined project management standards and processes.

Service Provider Management

  • May provide input to estimates of work effort.
  • Assists in facilitation of timely resolution of service delivery problems to minimize the impact to clients.

Supporting Operations

  • Works with team to put sustainable work processes and systems in place that support the execution of the strategy.
  • Establishes and maintains complete and up-to-date information to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Represents team in resolving situations.
  • Maintains and manages inventory and service operations.
