Job Summary:

Manage the Production, Stores, and Shipping/Receiving functions to support quality and on-time delivery of product shipped, as well as Facilities Maintenance. Direct reports will include Production Manager, Production/Shipment Coordinator, Stores Manager, Shipping/Receiving Manager, and Facilities Manager.

Management of Production includes responsibility for timely and effective assembly and testing of units for production and development programs. This position will work closely with the Production Manager on technical coordination, resource management, assembly flow and planning, and internal communications of what is required to support production and will also provide production status. Responsibility will include ThinKom’s various product lines and is a mixture of mature and developmental programs. Close coordination with the Production/Shipment Coordinator will also be required to drive on-time shipments.

Management of Stores includes working closely with the Stores Manager to monitor kit levels to support production, kit material shortages, and inventory processing. Maintaining processes to ensure inventory accuracy, FIFO material usage, and proper material handling is also critical.

Management of Shipping/Receiving includes working closely with the Shipping/Receiving manager to balance resources to support timely processing of receipt of materials and planned shipment requirements. Maintaining processes to ensure accurate shipment documentation, proper packaging and accurate shipment processing is also a critical responsibility of this position.

Management of Facilities includes oversight of equipment maintenance and repairs, facility modifications and general cleaning of the facility.

Across all functions, a problem solving and execution-focused mindset is critical to continuously drive tasks to closure and to effectively address issues impacting production as they occur. A focus on ongoing process improvement is also key part of this position.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effective management of several departments in a dynamic/fluid production environment
  • Communicate production and shipment plans to team members and drive coordination between departments to meet those plans
  • Identify tasks that team members are not completing efficiently, and develop tools and procedures to improve the execution of those tasks
  • Drive discipline with direct reports on the reports they are responsible to review and manage
  • Independently review daily and weekly reports to track progress towards shipments, allocate work to resources appropriately, track employee output, resolve kit shortages, and ensure various work queues are being managed effectively (i.e. inventory putaway, electrical testing, etc.)
  • Identify metrics, and work with the IT department to generate, to be used to evaluate and report on production performance (volume, yield, etc.) through various angles – i.e. LRU, program, assembly personnel, RMA vs production, etc. – and to identify trends and investigate issues
  • Work closely with Stores and Production managers to assign tasks within, and manage output of, those areas to enable efficient and timely completion of the required tasks
  • Work closely with Shipping/Receiving and Stores to manage inventory storage and maintain organized space
  • Ongoing assessment of and improvements to the production area for streamlined work flow and increased efficiency
  • Support continuous improvement of assembly instructions (Method Sheets), process routings (Route Sheets), and Receiving and Inventory processes
  • Ensure processes and people comply with various production environment programs such as FOD, ESD, etc. per the company Quality System.
  • Support creation of training programs and conduct/coordinate various training, as necessary, for new employees and existing employees’ continual improvement
  • Support the implementation of changes related to ECNs that impact production and inventory
  • Communicate internally with management regarding production status and needs, identifying constraints and recommending fixes.
  • Review direct report employees’ timecards for accuracy (hours and charge codes)
  • Escalate issues with employees (i.e. attendance, behavior, etc.) to management/HR appropriately
  • When required, attend meetings with other departments to review status, discuss issues, make decisions and work problem resolutions.
  • Work cross-functionally with Quality and Engineering departments as needed
  • Other tasks as assigned from time to time


Skills and/or Experience Needed:

  • Energetic and creative, with strong analytical skills and a solid work ethic
  • Ability to multitask effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to deal with problems and setbacks in a constructive manner
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively communicate both verbally and over e-mail
  • Technical expertise in operations
  • 3-5 years of experience in Production/Manufacturing or equivalent
  • Demonstrated skills in organizing and directing people and programs
  • Interpersonal skills to constructively manage interactions and working relationships of operations personnel
  • Technically proficient in computer applications: ERP, Word, Excel, Outlook


Language Skills

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, to employees of all levels


Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to evaluate priorities and allocate resources accordingly in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to communicate calmly in a well thought out response
  • Must be able to make decisions and get the teamworking together effectively in accordance with the decision made


Additional Skill and Experience Preferred (Not Required):

  • Six Sigma / TQM certified or experience

  • US Citizenship or lawful permanent residence in the U.S. required in support of US Government contracts/subcontracts

  • This position uses a computer terminal to access, input, and retrieve data
  • While performing duties of this position, employee is consistently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, and/or bend
  • May be occasionally required to life, push, or pull maximum of 50olb
  • may be subjected to irregular or extended work hours
  • Must be able to work in an environment that may be subject to occasional loud noises, hazardous materials and chemicals and electro-magnetic energy
