Job Description
Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mission is Making Lives Better Through Transportation . Location: Ames, Iowa
Shift Requirements: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (flexible schedule), in-person with option for partial telework schedule. Occasional travel and overnights for project visits or conferences.
Do you have the ability to focus on all aspects of a task or project, even the smallest ones? Are you analytical and enjoy digging through public records to determine legal ownership of property and boundaries. The Fiscal and Title Section is looking for a Right of Way Agent 3. As a senior agent you will assist the lead worker with fiscal and title production schedules as well as provide training to new team members.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and three years of full-time experience equal to Right of Way Agent level work in real estate appraisal, property acquisition, real estate sales or management, or relocation assistance;
OR
an equivalent combination of experience and education substituting one year of the required full-time experience in real estate appraisal, property acquisition, real estate sales or management, or relocation assistance for one year (30 semester hours) of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years;
OR
an equivalent combination of experience and education substituting one year of experience in field-commissioned sales work, right of way engineering, other real estate or development support activity. engineering survey, highway construction inspection, or as the manager of a business for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years;
OR
an equivalent combination of experience and education substituting of satisfactory completion of any American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers Course, Society of Real Estate Appraiser Course, American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers Course, or American Right of Way Association Course, or its equivalent for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education a maximum substitution of four years.

Other Duties Will Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Conducting closing activities for negotiated real estate transactions to acquire right of way
- Providing guidance to consultants to ensure compliance with Iowa DOT policies, procedures, and standards
- Monitoring consultant progress on closing activities to assure that projects are kept on schedule
- Researching real estate title information to identify property ownership by interpreting complex legal descriptions
- Preparing documents to institute valid eminent domain proceedings to acquire right of way
- Coordinating the transfer of former State highways to local public agencies
