Job Description

The Research Specialist IV, under general direction research work involves performance of assignments which may involve planning and directing certain phases of research project.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and develop new plant transformation core facility which will have the capacity to utilize and employ the latest technological advances. There will be new revised fee-for-service that will be available to IPGB, the AgriLife Community and TAMU as needed.
  • Acquire and develop new vectors, genes, and promoters that will be made available to users of the facility. Utilize computer models to facilitate and to evaluate data as needed, as well as oversee fiscal operation via computer programs.
  • Develop and optimize protocols and for DNA transformation processing procedures including data analysis.
  • Manage the day-to day activities of the Center.
  • Supervise and train undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs and visiting scientists.
  • Other duties as required.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering, Plant Sciences or related field.
  • 10 years (120 months) of experience

Preferred Experience

Experience in an agricultural research assistant or plant scientist position, including three (3) years' experience with optimizing plant transformation, tissue culture, and regeneration protocols to improve the efficiency of plant transformation and regeneration of major crop plants.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Good communication and computer skills.

Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
