Position Summary

The Residential Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive behavioral health services to individuals residing in the facility in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Counselor I Salary Range: $67,000 - $77,000 with a $4,000 sign on bonus!

Counselor II Salary Range: $55,000 - $66,000 with a $2,000 sign on bonus!

Essential Functions

  • Conducting assessments: Evaluate patients to determine the nature and extent of their substance abuse issues, as well as co-occurring mental health conditions or other factors that may impact their treatment and lives.
  • Developing treatment plans: Collaborate with the patients to develop individualized treatment plans that address their specific needs and goals in recovery.
  • Providing individual counseling: Offer one-on one counseling sessions to patients to help them explore underlying issues, develop coping strategies, and work towards recovery.
  • Leading group therapy sessions: Facilitate group therapy sessions to provide patients with peer support, address common issues, and practice interpersonal skills in a supportive environment.
  • Monitoring progress: Regularly assess patients’ progress in treatment, adjust treatment plans as needed, and provide feedback and support to help patients stay on track with their recovery goals.
  • Educating patients: Provide education on substance abuse, addictions, relapse prevention strategies, coping skills, and healthy lifestyle choices to empower patients in their recovery journey.
  • Collaborating with other professionals: Work closely with other members of the treatment team, such as medical professionals, social workers, case managers and peer support professionals, to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
  • Advocating for patients: Advocate for patients’ needs and rights within the residential program and in external settings, such as court proceedings, social service agencies, or healthcare settings.
  • Documenting patient progress: Maintain accurate and confidential records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries, in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Participate in professional development: Stay current on best practices in substance abuse and mental health treatment, attend training and workshops, maintain licensure.
  • Transport patients safely in agency vehicle from facility to appointments and other venues on an as needed basis.

Qualifications/Skills Required For Counselor I

Current licensure as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), with a minimum of two (2) years relevant experience. Must be knowledgeable about the biological and psychosocial dimensions of substance use and mental health disorders and their treatment and be able to identify the signs and symptoms of acute psychiatric conditions, including psychiatric decompensation. Adult CPR/AED or BLS certification must be obtained and maintained within the initial 6 months of employment. Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe/clear driving record.

Associate license (LMSW, LPC-A, LMFT-A) required. Independent professional licensure expected within 2 years. Must be knowledgeable about the biological and psychosocial dimensions of substance use and mental health disorders and their treatment and be able to identify the signs and symptoms of acute psychiatric conditions, including psychiatric decompensation. Adult CPR/AED or BLS certification must be obtained and maintained within the initial 6 months of employment. Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe/clear driving record.
