Quality Assurance Specialist - 1708

Summary

Berberian Nut Company is seeking a proactive and self-starting Quality Assurance Specialist to be based at our walnut processing plant. The QA Specialist monitors product quality and safety, supervises environmental and other swabbing programs, assists in establishing food quality and safety protocols, including HACCP and associated Prerequisite Programs and supports management with supervising and training QA personnel.

Responsibilities

• Ensure product and quality specifications are met at both Processing and Huller Plants.
• Help achieve and exceed food safety and quality standards per BRC Certification and regulatory requirements (FDA/USDA).
• Train crew employees in SOPs, USDA grading, GMPs, HACCP, BRC, etc., and verify training through monthly audits.
• Coach and retrain based on internal inspections and audits.
• Address and report food safety concerns immediately, making recommendations and placing affected products on hold.
• Maintain housekeeping and hygiene standards.
• Complete all requisite documentation timely, including risk assessments and corrective actions.
• Monitor adherence to food safety policies and procedures, leading by example.
• Ensure efficiency in QC sampling, packing, and related activities.
• Complete audits and log QC and other departmental records.
• Schedule and monitor environmental and hygienic swabbing monthly.
• Audit calibrations register bi-annually and ensure QC/lab equipment checks and calibrations.
• Participate actively in HACCP and Internal Auditor meetings.
• Assist in root cause and risk analyses for food safety programs.
• Joint-host independent, 3rd Party, and/or customer audits, and assist with customer complaint investigations and corrective action plans.

Qualifications

• High school diploma of GED equivalent.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience in a processing facility, preferably in food safety, quality assurance, or continuous improvement.
• Previous HACCP and/or GFSI Certifications and/or lean manufacturing training a plus.
• Basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Computer competency with data entry and word processing.
• Strong demonstrated interpersonal, leadership, problem-solving and communication skills including bilingual English/Spanish.
• Willing and able to work rotating shifts including day, swing, nights. Shift may include long hours, weekends, and holidays, per company needs.
