Augmentative/Alternative Communication Consultant


IN THIS ROLE:

You’ll have the opportunity to deliver professional development and consulting services in Augmentative/Alternative Communication (AAC) to Special Education professionals across Oakland County school districts. Our goal is to empower all students to become confident communicators, boost academic success, and bridge the achievement gap for those who rely on AAC.


WHAT WE NEED:

  • An individual who is adaptive and collaborative with exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to provide consultation and professional learning to local districts on AAC.
  • Expertise and knowledge of language and its application to AAC implementation; access methods for those with physical vision or multiple needs; adult learning methodologies to create/facilitate professional learning and online content.
  • Implementation science and capacity building approaches will be key in our efforts to increase student achievement and close the achievement gap for students requiring AAC.
  • Collaboration with local school administrators and education teams on matters related to AAC.
  • Serve as a resource and liaison to internal work groups and external agencies and professional organizations.



WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Master’s degree in special education, speech-language pathology, or related field.
  • Five or more years of related experience including experience working with students who have complex communication needs and use AAC.
  • Knowledge of developmental language and literacy and its application to AAC.
  • Experience implementing language based AAC systems and identifying appropriate AAC for students.
  • Knowledge of current research-based strategies for AAC implementation
  • Experience consulting collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience creating high quality virtual and in-person professional learning for adult learners.
  • Ability to properly utilize tools and equipment necessary to conduct professional learning.


SALARY DETAILS:

$98,989 - $114,797 annually based on experience, with the potential to earn up to $123,624 Annually / Exempt position / 12-month work year.
