Position Summary A Coder/Biller processes patients billing information following established clinic protocols. Collects and posts patient financial responsibility amounts and payments from other payor sources. Reconciles receipts and prepares bank deposits. Analysis of rejected claims and correction for re-processing. Works on other financial projects as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education High School diploma or equivalent Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or (CPC-A) certification preferred. American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) certification with two years billing experience in a clinic setting will be accepted in lieu of CPC certification. Experience One year billing experience required. Prior health care billing and collection experience preferred. Experience using the CMS1500 and UB04 claim forms required. Experience using an electronic medical record (EMR). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Office preferred. Strong data entry skills using 10-key. Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. Calm, professional attitude in stressful situations and interactions. High level of ethics in maintaining patient confidentiality. Good listening skills, alert, analytic ability, problem solving ability with use of creative skills, good memory and concentration, good judgment, initiative and patience. Handles a multitude of tasks simultaneously. Deal with and/or solves stressful situations. Communicates with patients, physicians, and other staff in verbal and written form. Physical and Mental Requirements Stands, walks, sit, and communicates most of the day. Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally including pushing and/or pulling objects. Ability to identify and comprehend various billing related documents. Uses telephone, computer terminal, printer, fax copier, while performing certain duties. OSHA Category III: Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid. #
