About This Role

The Advanced Cardiac Therapies Improving Outcomes Network (ACTION) is seeking an organized and detail-oriented data science analyst to join our data coordinating center. Previous data analysis experience, as well as strong communication and prioritization skills, are also desired. ACTION is a learning health network that includes over 70 pediatric heart centers, industry collaborators, regulatory bodies, and patients and families. Using a quality improvement and research-based approach, members work in collaboration with each other, sharing data, finding better solutions, and discovering new innovations. ACTION currently has 4 data registries for patients with or at risk of heart failure, including populations such as Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) therapy patients, heart failure patients, muscular dystrophy patients, and failing Fontan patients. The data science analyst will perform many duties and responsibilities to assist the data coordinating center team, registries, and projects. Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to, data analysis and reporting, data cleaning, auditing, and validation, publication duties such as analysis, reporting, and visualizations for abstracts and manuscripts, research and quality improvement analysis, cross-coverage for other analysts working with other registries and projects in the ACTION DCC, as well as other duties outlined in the job description.

Job Responsibilities

  • Problem Analysis and Project Management- Work with clinical, operations and research teams to understand, document and respond to requirements to meet simple to moderately complex analytic needs. Collaborate across the organization to understand IT and business constraints. Understand new data sources and process pipelines and catalog/document them. Determine requirements that will be used to test, train and evolve models and algorithms. Communicate and follow Data & AI Governance principles. Execute own project tasks with urgency and to a high level of quality. Communicate status clearly and effectively using departmental project management tools. Follow time-tracking and other project management requirements. Participate actively in project meetings, stand-ups, etc.
  • Data Exploration and Preparation- Create datasets using Enterprise data preparation tools. Apply statistical analysis and visualization techniques to various data, such as hierarchical clustering, T-distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (t-SNE), principal components analysis (PCA, mMachine Learning simple to moderately complex questions. Generate hypotheses about the underlying mechanics of the business/clinical process. Test hypotheses using various quantitative methods. Display drive and curiosity to understand the process and collaborate with domain experts to better understand the system workflows and generation of data.
  • Presentation & Operationalization- Prepare reports, presentations and visualizations to share insights with clinical, operational and research teams, using data display standards and best practice. Collaborate with data engineers, Xops teams and appropriate IT teams to automate and deploy solutions using established best practices, including source control and continuous monitoring.
  • Technical and Analytical Skill- Develop foundational to proficient IT skills in coding languages (Python, R, etc.) and database programming languages for both relational and non-relational data structures. Develop foundational to proficient skills in data wrangling, data mining, data & quantitative analysis. Develop foundational to proficient skill in using Enterprise Data tools as appropriate. Develop ability to communicate complex results to technical and non-technical audiences, using storytelling and creative visualizations.
  • Support teams with guidance from higher-level analysts.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, economics or related fields
  • No experience required
  • Specialization in ML, AI, cognitive science or data science
