Job Description
Job Summary: The Intake Assessment Therapist is responsible for prioritizing patients according to clinical needs and disposition of all patients referred to the Loma Linda University Behavioral Medicine Center. Documents processes thoroughly and communicates with referent, department team members and colleagues regarding all findings. Coordinates contact with the appropriate clinical, hospital and community resources. Coordinates with clinicians and hospital staff to facilitate hospital admissions according to appropriate department guidelines and criteria. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Master's Degree and a minimum of two years' experience conducting high risk assessments and working with multi-disciplinary team to determine appropriate level of care.
Knowledge and Skills: Ability to input data into computer; good hand-eye coordination. Ability to develop positive therapeutic interactions with a variety of patients, patient families, staff, and outside agencies; maintains calm demeanor in crisis situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to assess patients' conditions, interpret care plan, comprehend appropriate interventions, evaluate patient response to care, teach patient and families; requires higher level mental faculties accompanied by short and long-term memory. Demonstrates an understanding of patient rights and the hospital policy and philosophy of care of the patient requiring restraint and or seclusion. Knowledge of Insurance, Managed Care criteria, BMC and department admission criteria. Ability to complete and assessment within 45 minutes using the nursing process of therapeutic communication and interviewing skills and clinical assessment with the patient and their family. Knowledge of psychotropic medications. Knowledge of appropriate age group(s). Read, write legibly, and speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: The Current license needs to be up to date in one of the following areas: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Psychologist or equivalent in the state of California required.
