Capital Equipment Senior Buyer, Indirect Procurement

Summary of the Opportunity:

Molex is seeking a contribution minded and experienced individual to join our Indirect Procurement Sourcing Center as a Capital Equipment Senior Buyer, based in Rochester Hills, MI, USA.

In this highly visible role, you will be responsible for supporting and executing CapEx Equipment Sourcing and Procurement activities for manufacturing processes such as metal stamping and plating, plastic injection molding, and electro-mechanical assembly for our Transportation Solutions Business Unit (TSBU) in collaboration with business stakeholders, AME Sourcing Center colleagues as well as our Machinery Category Management team colleagues.

Responsibilities Overview:

Sourcing Analytics:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and complex specifications
  • Develop, review, and analyze Statements of Work (SOW) in collaboration with internal business partners
  • Evaluate technical RFx responses from suppliers, including mediating Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) proposals and conducting product and process capability studies


Sourcing Strategy:

  • Collaborate with Category Management and cross-functional business unit teams to develop and implement sourcing strategies that align with organizational objectives
  • Define optimized risk and Total Cost of Ownership (quality, cost, reliability & delivery capability)
  • Develop and maintain an abbreviated, focused Preferred Supplier target list for future mutually beneficial relationships


Sourcing Execution:

  • Support identification, evaluation, and selection of suppliers through market sourcing as well as identification of supplier capabilities and gaps, in line with Category Strategies
  • Support the Plant / Region. Support and execute Sourcing activities such as the creation of RFx events through Coupa, Total Landed Cost and Total Cost of Ownership reviews, negotiation, risk analysis, award, and other Sourcing activities
  • Conduct Technical reviews and commercial reviews with stakeholders and suppliers to drive best in class cost / quality for Molex


Contracts and Agreements:

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, legal team members and Category Management to support supplier negotiation, contract development and execution


Supplier Relationship Management:

  • Collaborate with Category Management to develop and maintain positive relationships with key suppliers
  • Monitor supplier performance, deliverables and KPI’s and implement strategies to address issues or improvements related to Molex Preferred Supplier List


VA/VE Analytical Skills:

  • Seek opportunities / monitor supplier spend trends to identify total cost improvement and risk reduction opportunities cross plants and supply base;
  • Conduct supply base rationalization and/or vendor consolidation / volume leveraging, commercial negotiation, consumption reduction and controls.
  • Identify architectural cost alternatives for Engineering to consider for future NPD projects


Education and Experience:

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, or related Engineering discipline from an accredited program and / or related relative work experience.

Required: 2+ years’ experience in a strategic procurement role (including commercial negotiation) within a manufacturing environment; Tier I or Tier II automotive organization preferred

Preferred: 8+ years’ experience in Capital Equipment, tooling, and / or other customized product sourcing and negotiation.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Able to read engineering drawings and understand complex specifications, agreements / contracts
  • Basic project management capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in collaboration with global teams
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software suite, with an emphasis on Excel analytics and PowerPoint presentations
  • Demonstrated experience working with automated equipment suppliers, complex tooling vendors, as well as high-value commercially available machinery / equipment suppliers
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP and Procurement systems; SAP & Coupa preferred
