Behavioral Health Assistant

High School diploma or equivalent, one to two years related experience in medical/behavioral health setting and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, electronic medical records software, and spreadsheet design software. With training, ability to provide basic technical support and to triage more difficult problems to appropriate staff.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Thorough knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to establish and follow detailed work procedures; communication skills for relaying information with tact and diplomacy; ability of attention to detail; ability to exercise independent judgement.

Responsibilities

- Escorts patients to throughout office to various services (provider visit, nurse visit, lab, pharmacy)
- Interviews patients, measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and records information on patients' charts and maintains patient confidentiality
- Assists with triaging psychiatric nurse task box discerning which calls need to be sent to crisis nurse team, primary care, or psychiatric nurses.
- Assists with rescheduling patients with providers when patient appointment was missed or cancelled. Conducts reminder calls to patients when needed.
- Assists with scheduling patients into nurse appointments, 'refill groups', lab appointments, provider appointments, and/or procedures as directed by provider or nurses
- Assists with obtaining releases of information to obtain and share information, and in obtaining records from outside providers (psychiatric facilities, hospitals, medical offices, schools) for the benefit of patient care; faxing and/or scanning health records into the patient's chart when received.
- Assists with supportive listening and encouragement to patients. BH Asst. will report any concerning assessment to nursing staff.
- BH Asst. may refer patients to CHC services, Day Treatment programs, Peer Wellness program and/or Health Recovery programs as directed by provider or nurse staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
