You'll Be Responsible For

  • Providing excellent customer service as a play facilitator at the Randall Lewis Second Story and Beyond children's museum/discovery center inside the Biane Library, where you'll help connect families with discovery experiences based on literacy themes.
  • Assisting with planning and presenting children's programming, which may include reading stories, singing songs, and hands-on activities.
  • Contributing to creating a welcoming, organized, clean and fun space for children and families.
  • Staying aware and up to date on children's museums and discovery space trends that may be of interest to the community and enhance their experience.
  • Creating graphics and marketing materials.
  • Helping to create and maintain safe library and museum spaces utilizing the Library's policies and a code of conduct.
  • Handling ticket sales and cash procedures.

ARE YOU QUALIFIED

Education And/or Experience

Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Library Science, six units of college-level technical library courses, one year of library experience or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of library work; the use of library indexes, catalogs, and simple reference sources. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the public, especially children.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequent standing and sitting. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper; occasional lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five pounds such as files, stacks of paper, references, and other materials. Moving from place to place within the office; some reaching for items above and below desk level. Strength, dexterity, coordination, and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal occasionally.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Generally clean work environment with limited exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, odors, and noise. Work schedule may include evenings and weekends.
