Salary: $15 - $20 per hour
Contract type: Full time
About Bright Harbor:

Bright Harbor is the only disaster recovery service that offers expert concierge support alongside innovative digital tools to simplify and accelerate the recovery process. Our mission is to make disaster recovery faster, simpler, and more affordable, empowering individuals and communities to rebuild with ease and confidence.

Position Overview:

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Community Ambassador in Asheville to join our team on a full-time, temporary basis. As a Community Ambassador, you’ll play a key role in raising awareness of our services within the community. This role involves direct outreach through canvassing, door knocking, flyering with our nonprofit partners, and attending community events. You’ll be the face of Bright Harbor, helping spread our mission and building strong local connections to bring impactful resources to those who need them most.

You’ll also keep a close eye on the community's response and source opportunities for free services—such as debris removal and grants—that can support the recovery process for our clients.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in unstructured environments, has a passion for community resilience and rebuilding and has a positive can-do attitude.

Temporary Contract:

This role will be full time for at least 2 months, with an opportunity for an extension, depending on the community needs and you will be expected to be able to work at least 30 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community Outreach: Engage directly with community members by canvassing, door knocking, and distributing flyers, educating them about Bright Harbor’s disaster recovery services.
  • Event Representation: Attend and represent Bright Harbor at local community events, building relationships and driving awareness of our offerings.
  • Partnership Coordination: Source opportunities with local nonprofit partners and coordinate outreach efforts and ensure consistent, impactful messaging within the community.
  • Community Awareness: Post signs and find other opportunities for our brand and messaging to be present within the community.
  • Resource Matching: Identify and share opportunities for free services, such as debris removal, local grants, and other community resources, to support clients in their recovery process.
  • Community Insights: Gather feedback and insights from community interactions to help Bright Harbor understand and respond to local needs more effectively.
  • Needs Assessment & Triage: Conduct initial assessments with community members to understand their recovery needs, provide feedback, and offer support across various aspects of their recovery.

Qualifications:

  • Deeply Passionate: You care about making a difference in your community, with a strong commitment to helping it recover and thrive. You are driven to support individuals, small businesses and families in their journey toward resilience and recovery.
  • High Integrity: Trustworthiness and honesty are essential. You take responsibility for your commitments always prioritizing what’s best for the community.
  • Local Insight: You are either a resident of or closely connected to the impacted community, with a strong understanding of its organizations, leaders, and local dynamics.
  • Community Engagement Experience: You have experience in outreach, canvassing, or community engagement. Experience in disaster recovery or social services is a plus, as is any work where you've helped others navigate local resources.
  • Approachable and Trustworthy: You’re friendly, empathetic, and able to quickly build trust and rapport with community members and partners, making them feel comfortable and supported.
  • Clear, Compassionate Communicator: Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills allow you to engage meaningfully with people, offering them the right information and assistance with empathy.
  • Problem Solver: You’re resourceful and creative, capable of assessing individual needs, offering relevant support, and helping clients navigate recovery options to best meet their needs.
  • Dependable and Organized: Strong organizational skills and a commitment to following through make you someone people can depend on. You’re consistent, timely, and reliable in all aspects of your work.
  • Flexible Availability: This role requires your full attention, and you are prepared to attend events and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Why Join Bright Harbor?

  • Community Focused: Be part of a company working to address your communities most critical issue, recovering from a natural disaster.
  • Impactful Work: Join a mission-driven team that’s making a tangible difference in people’s lives.
  • Performance Culture: Be part of a world-class team with a strong culture that values performance, integrity, and creativity.
