Responsible for maintenance, renovations, and construction of training projects, buildings, and facilities/grounds support. Responsible for controlling and maintaining accurate inventory and ordering of equipment and necessary materials and supplies. Performs and manages Preventative Maintenance (PM) Work Orders, basic repair of ESTI fire field grounds/training props, and minor building maintenance and Maintenance Work Order (MWO) repair requests.
This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance and Construction Manager.

Job Description
The Training Support Foreman I, (2nd shift 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.) is directly responsible for supervising, directing and assigning work to the staff. Responsible for maintenance, renovations, and construction of training projects, buildings, and facilities/grounds support. Responsible for controlling and maintaining accurate inventory and ordering of equipment and necessary materials and supplies. Performs and manages Preventative Maintenance (PM) Work Orders, basic repair of ESTI fire field grounds/training props, and minor building maintenance and Maintenance Work Order (MWO) repair requests.
This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance and Construction Manager.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Four years of experience related to basic electrical, basic carpentry, basic plumbing, basic machinery and equipment operation, building trades, and or construction experience to include a combination of some the following:
- welding, pipefitting, plumbing, concrete, basic electrical, carpentry.
- heavy equipment operation and proper use of hand and power tools.
- Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a LPG Installation & DOT Cylinder Filling certifications within the first 18 months of employment.
- Ability to complete listed out-sourced training within first 12 months of employment (if available) to include 30-hour OSHA training.
- Ability to maintain obtained certifications/licenses for the duration of employment to include completion of required continuing education.
- D iploma or certificate from an accredited Trade School.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of five years of supervisor experience.
- Five years of experience working in an industrial/chemical pant.
- Six or more years of experience in building maintenance and repairs, building trades or construction.
- Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat.
- Ability to lift and/or move heavy maintenance materials and/or training equipment.
- Must be able to communicate orally and in writing.
- Physical conditioning consistent with performing maintenance activities and/or construction activities to include standing, walk, sitting, climbing ladders or scaffolding, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, reaching, talking, hearing, carrying, lifting, pushing/pulling maintenance tools and/or equipment.
- Ability to travel independently by driving a vehicle to pick up supplies/materials from local vendors and to other campuses to perform work.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to obtain LPG Installation & DOT Cylinder Filling certifications (training will be provided prior to conducting related activities).
- Proficient computer skills to operate a PC with Microsoft Office 365 and a CMMS Work Order system.
- Ability to positively and effectively interact with direct reports, students, vendors, customers, staff and management.
- Demonstrated safety awareness and safe working habits/practices.
- Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
- Skid steel loader, forklift, material handler, man lift, iron worker, backhoe.
- Riding mowers, side-by-side ATV’s, golf carts and various types of vehicles.
- Personal protective equipment.
- Training equipment.
- This position is security sensitive.
- This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
- This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
- All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
- As part of TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/HQ Department Head.
- Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
- This position directs or evaluates the work of others.
- This position requires compliance with OSHA/NFPA standards, ESTI Respirator Protection Program related to the proper wearing of respirator. Beards, sideburns or mustaches must not exceed 2” in length for PPE equipment. Shaving of the entire sealing surface area of your face will be required to allow for annual respirator fit testing as well as immediately upon being given assignment of a task requiring use of a respirator. The requirement to shave cannot be discharged and to request the task be assigned to a coworker or subordinate. Refusal to shave immediately upon the assignment of a task, that requires the use of a respirator will result in immediate disciplinary actions up to and including termination if deemed appropriate.
Supervisory - 50%
- Develops and assigns workload, schedules/task assignments for assigned staff from the Computer Maintenance Management System.
- Conducts and documents interviews for assigned staff.
- Mentors and trains for assigned staff.
- Prepares documents and administers performance evaluations for assigned staff.
- Provides input and documentation for position descriptions and disciplinary actions for assigned staff.
- Approves time sheets, leave, and training requests for assigned staff.
- Completes required inventory reports such as quarterly/annual physicals, consumable, and chemical inventories.
- Provides supporting data regarding materials, inventory, purchases and equipment.
- Maintains maintenance records, safety logs, mileage reports, and assists storekeeper with accountability of equipment, materials, and replacement parts.
- Prepares detailed Scope of Work, cost estimates for repairs, schedules for completing work, Project Materials and labor for Maintenance Work Orders and Special Projects.
- Produces shop drawings for maintenance and/or construction activities as needed.
- Assists manager with the supervision and coordination of work performed by others such as A&M Physical Plant Department, Main Campus Facilities and Maintenance Departments and outside contractors performing construction/maintenance activities at the training facility.
- Attends weekly scheduled safety training meetings.
- Provides QA/QC as requested for Maintenance Work Orders and Special Projects.
- Performs necessary welding, fabrication, prefabrication of pipes, beams, grating, and handrails on existing training projects utilizing MIG and stick welding.
- Replaces damaged project steel supports, plating and grating, utility piping, fittings, and valves.
- Performs necessary repairs to project valves, solenoids, repair of valves and stems, gaskets and other necessary materials to maintain the projects in working order.
- Repairs and replaces as necessary damaged ceiling tile, flooring materials, lighting bulbs and ballasts, damaged electrical switches, receptacles on projects, repair of project shelters, and infrastructures and storage areas.
- Paints interior/exterior items associated with the Field Projects, but not limited to and including piping systems, handrails, fuel tanks, shelters, classroom/office walls, parking stops/bollards, awnings and shade covers, etc.
- Assists with cleanup of training grounds by picking up trash, picking up damaged fire hoses, mowing, trimming of bushes and weed eating.
- Repairs buildings and project equipment in accordance with OEM and maintenance guidelines.
- Assists other departments with the semi-annual sump and pit clean outs for the projects.
- Assists with the preparation, set up and clean-up of facilities, projects, and classroom for scheduled classes and training sessions as requested.
- Prepares projects and classrooms for training by delivering and placing training equipment.
- Sets up classrooms and lunch areas for scheduled training classes as required.
- Supports training projects by securing equipment in designated storage areas.
- Provides direct assistance to other programs as requested.
- Purchases materials, supplies and equipment in accordance with TAMUS, TEEX, and ESTI regulations.
- Obtains and submits all required purchasing and receiving documentation.
- Completes performance surveys as needed and participates in professional development opportunities for assigned staff.
- Completes position specific training and obtains position specific licenses and/or certifications within the assigned timeframe.
- Facilitates and/or attends project-related meetings as requested.
- Performs other work duties as assigned.
