Job Summary

The Certification Engineer is responsible for developing and executing certification programs to demonstrate compliance to regulatory and OEM requirements.

Note: The primary difference between job levels is tied to skill level, complexity of the problem solving, and year of experience. Job assignments will be based on experience, job opening and budget availability, and the performance level of the incumbent.

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES - Essential Functions (Other duties and projects may be assigned or requested.)

  • Develop certification test plans and reports ensuring compliance to regulatory and OEM requirements
  • Communicate with project team members to identify scope of work, schedule, design details, quotes, risks, and other pertinent factors impacting certification
  • Oversee and assist as necessary with test article build and conformity
  • Review prototype designs and drawings; identify and communicate necessary changes
  • Identify potential certification issues and any adverse impact; communicate any certification related information to supervisor and impacted disciplines. Analyze problems and derive appropriate solutions
  • Develop tools, as necessary, to track deliverables, testing, compliance findings, to assure on-time completion of certification tasks. Maintain accurate and up-to-date certification records
  • May interface with airlines, OEMs, FAA, and suppliers to ensure project timeline is achieved
  • Act as subject matter expert for certification issues in a variety of areas, including flammability, dynamic and static testing, design compliance, and aircraft installation and integration (level II/III)
  • Develop internal best practices (level II/III)
  • Monitor latest industry issues and documents; communicate information to applicable team members (level II/III)
  • Represent company at customer, industry or other required meetings
  • Maintain a safe, secure and legal work environment, adhering to all company policies and procedures
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of the Company’s information and products

Education

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS – Education, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar technical discipline is required

Experience: Job assignments will be based on experience, job opening and budget availability, and the performance level of the incumbent.

  • Level l: 0-2 years of engineering experience
  • Level II: 2-7 years of engineering experience
  • Level III: 7+ years of experience

Skills

  • Exceptional organizational skills, self-motivation, a sense of urgency and sensitivity to deadlines, and detail oriented
  • Operational knowledge of all certification test equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to analyze, regulatory requirements and advisory materials
  • Technical writing ability
  • Ability to communicate and present both orally and written
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a broader team
  • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Detailed knowledge of TSO processes and general FAA regulations (level II/III)
  • Detailed knowledge of dynamic, static, and flammability testing processes and procedures (level II/III)

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Knowledge of FAA (Part 21 and Part 25) and Boeing requirements
  • AutoCAD and/or CATIA V5 familiarity
  • Microsoft Office proficiency

Other

  • May be asked to work extended or irregular hours as required
  • Must show proof of ability to work in the United States

SUPERVISION PROVIDED TO THE POSITION

  • Level I: Direction with necessary guidance is provided in terms of tasks and objectives and measured based upon how well objectives have been met. Receives detailed instructions as needed
  • Level II: Direction is provided in terms of tasks and objectives. Work is reviewed upon completion on how well objectives have been met. Will autonomously work on routine programs / tasks with frequent status updates to supervisor. Will be provided with additional guidance on more complex or non-routine tasks
  • Level III: Direction is provided in terms of tasks and objectives. Work is reviewed upon completion on how well objectives have been met. Will work autonomously with only occasional status updates with supervisor

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY

  • Level I: N/A
  • Level II / III: May oversee the work of others. Assist in the training and coaching of other team members

PROBLEM SOLVING

  • Develop and provide solutions to complex problems based on established precedents and are consistent with organization objectives

Language Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

Salary Range Transparency: $85,000 - $130,000 annually, depending on candidate qualifications
