Summary
Position is located in a Youth Regional Treatment Center. The YRTC provides residential substance abuse and alcohol treatment to eligible American Indian and Alaska Native youth in order to find healthy directions in life. The purpose of the position is to provide non-professional care for those patients with mental conditions under the supervision of the Clinical Director. The technician utilizes scientific and technical expertise, and manual skills to provide care and training for patients.

Duties
Functions as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Under the leadership of the Clinical Psychologist, assists in the treatment of patients with adjustment disorders, oppositional and non-compliant behavior, attention deficit disorders, anxiety disorders and phobias, eating disorders, elimination disorders, school-related problems, developmental delay, pervasive developmental disorders, childhood psychosis and affective disorders, abuse and other trauma, and supports the psychological management of medical problems. Prepares and administers prescribed medications orally and intramuscularly per physician's orders. Recognizes emergency situations, responds promptly, and institutes appropriate action (initiates resuscitation measures in the event of cardio-pulmonary arrest). Provides month end, or ad hoc, reports and all other mandatory reports to the Milieu Coordinator and the Health Systems Administrator. Responsible for integrating all client information and updating the Master Treatment Plan for clients. Document clients' progress in the chart using notation and format designated in the YRTC policies and procedures, ensuring entries are made on completion of assessment, and upon implementation of the treatment plan.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.
Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
On-call hours or standby duty may be required.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Minimum Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performing variety of therapies, such as small group therapy, one-to-one therapy, and/or large group therapy using standardized therapeutic resident care. Preparing and administering prescribed medications. Taking vital signs. Monitoring patients' behavioral and mental conditions. Admitting and discharging patients.
Selective Placement Factor
Position requires knowledge of anatomy, physiology, nursing fundamentals, nutrition, pharmacology, psychiatric diagnoses, developmental disabilities, and psychotropic medications, as evidenced by a certification and/or licensure as a psychiatric technician.
Education
There are no education requirements, however, one full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.

Additional selection(s) of candidates may be possible within 240 days from the date the certificate of eligibles was issued for this announcement.
Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. At least a 6 month service agreement will be required.
This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
