Lufkin is seeking a Fleet Manager who will be based out of our Dickinson, ND or Missouri City, TX location. The Fleet Manager will be responsible for implementing systems for safe, efficient, and effective fleet management. The Manager will coordinate closely with the regional service center managers, 3rd party fleet management providers, internal and external maintenance & repair facilities and collaborating with other support functions within Lufkin.
This position is additionally responsible for timely checks on all fleet related areas of safety, operations, maintenance, fuel, licensing, and DOT compliance, tracking usage, and managing total operational costs while increasing productivity.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, transportation management or directly related field
- Ten (10) years of experience in a highly responsible position for fleet management operations, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Significant direct experience procuring and managing fleet.
- A proven track record of delivering distinctive commercial results via tenders.
- Operational and analytical skills to manipulate and evaluate operations data and drive efficiency across the fleet.
- The interpersonal skills to work effectively across both corporate and operational stakeholders.
- Prior supervisor experience of remote team members is recommended.
- Direct experience in building and monitoring fleet performance metrics and managing the effectiveness of fleet operations.
- Accredited certification in the fleet by a recognized professional association (e.g., NAFA-CAFM / CAFS; APWA-CPFP, etc.) is preferred.
- Develop vehicle and equipment specifications for Lufkin fleet RFPs and bids, work with Purchasing to issue requests, participate in an evaluation of responses, make award recommendations, and negotiate and monitor fleet-related contracts.
- Project future vehicle and equipment replacement requirements to estimate Capex requirements (purchase/lease) by analytically evaluating lease vs. purchase option to minimize the total cost of ownership.
- Perform physical and operational inspections of existing vehicles and equipment as well as pre-delivery inspections of new vehicles and equipment.
- Arrange purchase and delivery of vehicles and equipment to all sites and ensure that all assets purchased are licensed and registered as required by the various country and state laws.
- Develop new policies and programs designed to improve efficiency, productivity, cost control, and effectiveness related to Lufkin’s fleet; design, implement, maintain, and manage policies and programs regarding equipment/vehicle maintenance and fuel management.
- Develop and maintain annual vehicle condition inspection reports and utilize information to assist in budgeting or repair, service, and replacement – audit asset inventory annually.
- Conduct fleet operation and maintenance cost studies to identify units requiring repair or replacement.
- Work with region/site managers to schedule services, repairs, and inspections from vendors outside of the site's community vendors. If local vendors are currently performing work for the sites, work with sites to continue scheduling the work for completion by local vendors.
- Analyze equipment needs and advise operations on equipment suitability and possible use of alternative types of equipment by considering cost and use factors and other available information.
- Regularly rebalance the fleet location to adjust to current business conditions to maintain optimal fleet utilization objectives.
- Track, analyze, and report on fleet safety, inventory, fuel, driver, speed, and maintenance operations for cost-effectiveness; build and maintain key performance indicators.
- Analyze vehicles utilization, depreciation, maintenance costs, replacement costs, and standardization possibilities, and determine the best methods for replacement, acquisition, and financing of vehicles.
- Develop, review, and communicate monthly YTD, and multi-year running summaries of Maintenance & Repair expenses for all pieces of fleet equipment – develop and maintain a fleet data system.
- Maintain KPI dashboard for Motor Vehicle Safety using Motive telemetrics to coach leaders and drivers on safe, efficient use of the fleet.
