Job Description

Enhance group facilitation through observation, coaching, feedback, and follow-up. Facilitate a number of Achieving Change Through Values-Based Behavior curriculum (ACTV) groups per week as identified by the needs of the district. This is for our Iowa Domestic Abuse Program (IDAP). Provide intake and orientation to clients who participate in ACTV groups. Assist with the development of interventions. Primarily ACTV programming, to serve the client needs. Serve a central point of coordination for the District the delivery of intervention (ACTV) groups. Conducts one on one sessions with clients who requests more in-depth counseling.

Develop and train staff to facilitate the ACTV program. Participate and serve on statewide work groups, as needed, for the purpose of coordination of interventions. Serve as a liaison to the court to provide participant compliance information, recommendations and information as required for the court processes. Will assist management and the administration on projects as needed. Governs discussions with other facilitators and parole/probation officers regarding difficult cases. Assists with determining alternative methods to over come client barriers when the traditional participation in ACTV is not working or not able to be completed. Utilizes advanced knowledge and skills to influence effective treatment and intervention strategies that best provide for client completion of programming. Will supervise clients as needed.

Assures group interventions are delivered with fidelity and according to best practices. Also, schedules all IDAP groups. Assures continuity of treatment/groups by aiding staff in their absence of facilitating groups. Provides oversight of IDAP programming in this district. Facilitates cognitive behavioral programming groups as identified by the needs of the district. Utilizes and delivers Core Correctional Practices, skill building exercises, and cognitive behavioral programming as appropriate to encourage desistence from criminal activity/thinking and to support case planning objectives. Completes training and refresher training on assessment and case managing tools used by the Department. Prepares violation reports as necessary. Attends Court and hearings as necessary. Supports inclusion and diversity in all dealings with clients, employees and community members.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field, and experience equal to two years of full-time work in a human services or criminal justice field.
  • A total of six years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes 18 months of fulltime work as a Probation/Parole Officer II or 30 months as a Community Corrections Program Manager in a district or a similar position in another jurisdiction or agency.
