Job Summary
Under direction, provides crisis intervention and de-escalation services in the home and community. Completes hospital face to face screenings to determine if child needs inpatient care. Maintains clinical and administrative records; coordinates, consults and provides liaison work with other agencies and systems; ensures service authorizations are current; implements program goals and activities in keeping with program philosophy. Performs related duties as assigned. This program currently operates Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This position is required to work evenings and Saturday’s, and hours of the program are expected to expand as the needs grow.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
Performs direct clinical services, including, crisis intervention and de-escalation.
Performs indirect clinical services, including, timely and complete case documentation following MCCMH policies and procedures; confirms diagnosis to make the most suitable, least restrictive and medically necessary clinical recommendations; and assists client and/or family in obtaining appropriate programs and resources.
Provides follow up services for consumers to assist in obtaining necessary services, coordinating with Access Center or current provider to ensure the consumer is receiving the proper level of care.
Maintains clinical documentation accurate and up-to-date, including, assessments, progress notes, crisis/safety plans, and other required documentation.
Ensures administrative paperwork is accurate and up to date, including, staff activity logs, statistical reports, attendance, mileage reports, and case lists.
Participates in agency and system staff meetings.
Conducts thorough, accurate, and clinically sound triage/screening with consumer/guardian/family members in a timely manner.
Requests appropriate authorizations for services provided; monitors utilization of services; requests re-authorizations or continuations as appropriate.
Serves on community mental health or community based committees as directed.
May supervise the work of department interns.
May function as Team Lead for Mobile Unit.
Obtain and maintain a Michigan driver’s license prior to time of hire.
Required
QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience):
Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or Doctorate in Psychology or a directly related mental health field from an accredited college or university.
Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Limited Licensed Master of Social Work (LLMSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Limited License Professional Counselor (LLPC), Temporary Limited Licensed Psychologist (TLLP), or Licensed Psychologist (LP).
Possession of required state licensure appropriate to position and ability to meet privileging and credentialing guidelines.
Three (3) years clinical experience working in crisis oriented services specifically for children and families.
Certification in at least 1 evidenced base practice for children and families.
Minimum of at least 10 hours of training specific to crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
Preferred
One (1) year or more of experience working in a community mental health setting.
Four plus years previous experience in the assessment and treatment of children, including, but not limited to juvenile justice population, SED children, and IDD children.
Skills And Specifications
Working knowledge of resources within MCCMH and outside of Macomb County Community Mental Health.
Considerable knowledge of the Michigan Mental Health Code/401 criteria.
Knowledge of mental illness, serious emotional disturbance, and developmental disabilities.
Strong knowledge of techniques to de-escalate/interact in potentially dangerous situations.
Ability to effectively speak and understand the English language.
Ability to speak and understand a language other than English, is preferred.
Effective written and verbal communication.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials,
Administrators, Department Heads, staff, union officials and the public.
Ability to conduct oneself with tact and courtesy.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Works in an office environment, as well as in the community, and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed, to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office with frequent contact with customers.
Bends, stoops and reaches in order to file, search for and retrieve records and documents.
Manual dexterity and regular fine-finger and hand/wrist motions are required for operating a keyboard, writing and filing.
Seeing (vision), sitting, talking/speaking, or listening/hearing are regularly required.
Operates an automobile while performing assigned job duties.
