Summary
Position consults with the Director of the DEHS (Division of Environmental Health Services) program, incumbent will plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive Area Injury Prevention program. Will work towards DEHS program goals and objectives as established through consultation with the DEHS Director and the annual DEHS Performance Improvement Indicator (PII) process. The overarching goal of the Area Injury Prevention Program is to reduce injury mortality and morbidity within the Bemidji Area.

Education
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
Minimum Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Demonstrating knowledge in the principles and practices of community injury prevention (IP) as it relates to intentional and unintentional injury prevention, including: preventing of elder fall, motor vehicle related injury, poisoning, suicide or assault. These practices include assessing, implementing best practice interventions and evaluating control measures. Establishing priorities focused on the development of community-based injury data systems, community coalition development, injury prevention training initiatives and community-based intervention projects. Demonstrates training and background for preventing community related injuries. Planning and delivering a comprehensive environmental health, community injury prevention or safety program.
Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the minimum requirements, the following Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or Registered Sanitarian (RS) is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this particular position. Applicants who do not meet this will not be eligible for further consideration. You must attach a copy of your certificate(s).

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. At least a 6 month service agreement will be required.

Duties
- Serves as the Area Injury Prevention Coordinator in the development of community based injury prevention programs and interventions by preparing or reviewing plans, project proposals and grant applications/project management.
- Provide assistance in the development of Area wide and local community injury coalitions and committees through networking, resource development, communication and coordination with tribal organizations, service unit staff, federal, state and local agencies.
- Coordinates and provides formal and informal training for IHS and tribal public health practitioners in all matters relating to community injury prevention and environmental health, including standardized and customized training to increase the skills of public health practitioners.
- Assists IHS and Tribal staff in conducting epidemiological investigations, designing data collection methodologies and evaluation of intervention programs.
- Develop staff training plans and serving as an IHS Injury Prevention Fellowship mentor.
