We are seeking an Assistant Controller with a solid background in real estate accounting and demonstrated experience supervising accounting teams. Ideal candidates will bring exceptional organization, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to balance strategic vision and day-to-day tasks. The role also requires excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment while effectively managing shifting priorities.

Responsibilities

Assistant Controller Duties:

  • Supervise, train, and manage a team of 10-15 general ledger accountants.
  • Review monthly financial statements prepared by general ledger staff.
  • Coordinate external audits, including scheduling and liaising with property accountants, audit firms, owners, regulatory agencies, and other departments to ensure timely issuance of audited financial statements.
  • Act as the primary contact for owner accounting needs to ensure excellent client service.
  • Leverage knowledge and experience with accounting software platforms (Yardi Voyager 7.0, Entrata, and RealPage) to enhance internal controls, streamline processes, and develop custom reports.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to meet owner accounting deadlines and reporting requirements.


Other Duties:

  • Enforce community rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures consistently and fairly.
  • Ensure compliance with Fair Housing laws and organizational policies.
  • Maintain a professional image through adherence to dress code and conduct standards.
  • Represent the organization positively when interacting with employees, clients, residents, vendors, and guests.
  • Provide support for special projects and complete tasks as assigned by supervisors.
  • Meet all training requirements for the position, including safety meetings and other designated programs.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Proficiency in English (reading, speaking, and writing).
  • Demonstrated experience in accounting or finance, with property management industry experience preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Google Apps (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets), Adobe Acrobat, and basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word). Familiarity with Yardi and RealPage is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail, organization, and multitasking abilities.
  • Self-motivated, with a strong work ethic and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and a positive attitude, with a passion for delivering exemplary customer service.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
