Wildlife Care Internship
Department: Wildlife Care
Position Type: Unpaid Internship / Externship
Essential Functions
This is an unpaid position which focuses on the daily care of patients that come through the Texas State Aquarium’s Wildlife Rescue Program as well as our collection of birds, reptiles/amphibians and mammals on main campus. This internship will have a strong focus on understanding animal husbandry, as well as an introduction to wildlife medicine. Interns can expect to gain hands-on experience with enclosure maintenance, diet preparation,feeding and medical care.
Qualifications
Must be 18 years old or older and possess a valid Driver’s License. Interns must be able to work outdoors and in inclement weather, as well as in confined spaces and around loud noises. Interns must be able to lift at least 50lbs and be able to climb stairs and ladders. Preference will be given to currently enrolled college students or recent graduates with a major in Marine Biology, Biology, Marine Science, Zoology, or a strong interest in veterinary medicine.
Other Relevant Job Information
Must be able to work in harsh weather conditions (i.e. intense heat, sun, cold or rain). Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
