The City of Vacaville is accepting applications for the position of Junior Utilities Engineer/Assistant Utilities Engineer/Associate Utilities Civil Engineer in our Utilities Department. Currently, two (2) vacancies exist for these position. This recruitment will also establish an eligibility list for future vacancies in this classification that may occur over the next 12-month period.
The Junior Utilities Engineer/Assistant Utilities Engineer/Associate Utilities Civil Engineer position is flexible in staffing and may be filled at either the Junior (entry) level, Assistant (journey) level or Associate (advanced journey) level, depending on candidates' qualifications and departmental needs. Individuals may progress to the next level upon meeting higher-level qualifications.
The Utilities Engineers perform a wide variety of technical and professional engineering work in the design, construction and maintenance of public works and utilities projects; plan and coordinate major public works and utilities programs; and assist in supervision of engineering division activities.
SALARY INFORMATION:
Junior Utilities Engineer $102,455.65 - $124,537.48/Annually
Assistant Utilities Engineer $111,010.35 - $134,909.89/Annually
Associate Utilities Civil Engineer $122,122.26 - $148,403.52/Annually
This position works a "Defined 9/75 schedule", which is nine days over two weeks (typically eight 8.5-hour days and one 7-hour day with the tenth day off). In addition, this position is eligible for a remote/hybrid work schedule.

An Engineer with the Utilities Department performs a wide range of professional engineering duties. Typical assignments may consist of, but not be limited to, the following:
- Project Planning and Management: Prepare project scope, schedule and cost for contract water and wastewater projects.
- Consultant Contract Management: Manage and administer consultant contracts, Public Works contracts, prepare RFQ/RFP.
- Design: Research and develop design criteria, prepare and review calculations, plans, drawings, specifications and estimates.
- Planning, Technical Review and Research: Review and evaluate technical reports and proposals, prepare regulatory permits associated with the design of water supply and wastewater-related projects.
- Supervisory: Mentor junior staff, prioritize and oversee project work by others, assist with technical challenges on the projects.

Junior Utilities Engineer
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Equivalent to completion of a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering
Experience: None Required
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
Assistant Utilities Engineer
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to acquire the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to completion of a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering supplemented by course work in training and supervision.
Experience: Two years of professional level civil engineering experience in plan checking, design, construction or contract management of utilities or public works projects. Some work experience in a lead capacity is desirable.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of an Engineering-in-Training (EIT) Certificate.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
Associate Utilities Civil Engineer
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to acquire the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to completion of a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, supplemented by course work in training and supervision.
Experience: Four years of professional engineering experience including at least two years of experience similar to the City of Vacaville Assistant Engineer. One year of work experience overseeing technical staff and/or project management.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of a certificate of registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California or possession of a certificate of registration as a Professional Civil Engineer from another state, and the requirement to obtain registration in California as a condition for completing the probationary period.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
