Job Description
Provides leadership in the development, management, and budgeting for Childcare programs. The Executive Director, Childcare ensures that programs operate in a quality manner consistent with YMCA guidelines and applicable state licensing standards. She/he will also provide support to branch fundraising, community collaborations and membership efforts.
The Executive Director of Youth Development serves as a member of the executive leadership team, providing deliberate leadership to take the Y's outstanding brand and philanthropic foundation to a new level with innovative, fresh ideas on how best to engage the community, volunteers, and contributors, tell the Y story, and secure the funds needed to advance the mission.
Qualifications
Mission Advancement: Models and teaches the Ys values. Ensures a high level of service with a commitment to changing lives. Provides volunteers with orientation, training, development, and recognition. Cultivates relationships to support fund-raising.
Collaboration: Champions inclusion activities, strategies, and initiatives. Builds relationships to create small communities. Empathetically listens and communicates for understanding when negotiating and dealing with conflict. Effectively tailors communications to the appropriate audience. Provides staff with feedback, coaching, guidance and support.
Operational Effectiveness: Provides others with frameworks for making decisions. Conducts prototypes to support the launching of programs and activities. Develops plans and manages best practices through engagement of team. Effectively creates and manages budgets. Holds staff accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress.
Personal Growth: Shares new insights. Facilitates change; models adaptability and an awareness of the impact of change. Utilizes non-threatening methods to address sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, recreation management or related field.
- Three to five years of experience working with youth preferred.
- Hold qualifications as a Pre-school Director as specified by California Department of Social Services, Title 22.
- Minimum age requirements of 21.
- Requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; New Employee Orientation; CPR; First Aid; AED; Blood borne Pathogens.
- Supervisory experience with staffing and budgeting responsibilities.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Ability to work effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
- Ability to be professional, alert, courteous, and diplomatic.
- Proficiency with Windows based computers.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) a plus.
- Directs, supervises, and grows childcare, and youth program activities for the branch to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA strategic plans, objectives and goals.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, directs personnel and volunteers for programs as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Oversees all childcare programs, including preschools, toddler/infant programs and school age after school program.
- Responsible for managing facility schedules.
- Serves as a mentor to youth to create lasting personal and social change.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations, including area schools.
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Assists with committee meetings as assigned by supervisor. Takes an active role in planning for Healthy Kids Day.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
- Promote, evaluate, and ensure quality of all Youth Development programs to identify high level programming that supports each child we serve.
- Supervises development and implementation of curriculum to support quality programs with academic component is being delivered to the children we serve. It should promote learning/bridge the gap, character development, healthy living and positive, nurturing relationships.
- Supervises partnership with School Districts for the Afterschool program.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, emergencies, dress guidelines, and cleanliness standards.
- Attends staff meetings and training as scheduled and required.
- Act as representative of the YMCA of Greater Whittier at all times.
