Job Summary

The Underwriting Manager will be responsible for managing and leading a team of underwriters and due diligence reviewers to achieve the company's production and credit quality goals. The ideal candidate must possess a hands-on working style with in-depth knowledge of loan processes, and understanding of the complexity of various types of mortgage documents and investor requirements. In addition, the candidate must have strong organizational and accuracy skills, with the ability to manage the day-to-day hands-on support as a manager, prioritizing of assignments, and the ability to work with other team members.

Duties

  • Responsible for the training, coaching and supervision of all underwriters and due diligence reviewers in the application of all company overlays and agency requirements
  • Evaluate the structure of the underwriting and due diligence team and plan for continuous improvement in efficiency and effectiveness
  • Monitor and report on departmental metrics including review turn times, and other key drivers of the loan underwriting and due diligence functions including timely response to post-purchase and post-closing quality control findings relating to the underwriting function
  • Conducts underwriting review process in a manner designed to minimize the company's risk while employing problem resolution techniques and utilizing courteous, professional, internal and external customer service
  • Develop and maintain strong communication and collaboration with other departments
  • Provide a consistent approach to new hire training of underwriters and due diligence reviewers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Current advanced knowledge of industry-specific underwriting guidelines and agency requirements (FHA, FNMA)
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a mortgage underwriting role
  • DE and SAR designation preferred
  • Experience managing a team of mortgage underwriters is required
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service in fast-paced environments
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office applications i.e. Word and Excel
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other departments and investor agencies as required

Travel

10-25% travel is expected for this position according to business needs.

Education And Experience

  • At least ten years of experience as a credit and risk management officer in mortgage banking.
  • Direct experience in managing compliance operations in mortgage banking.
  • Experience in managing held investments assets and working with TPO channels.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be authorized to legally work within the United States of America.
