We’re looking for a fraud analyst to join our ranks. Commonwealth’s Fraud and Senior Investor Protection department is responsible for administering the firm’s Fraud Prevention, Senior Investor Protection, and Identity Theft Prevention programs. This includes monitoring, identifying, preventing, and investigating financial fraud such as email account compromises, account takeovers, wire fraud, digital payment fraud, check fraud, cyber fraud, payment card fraud, and identity theft, as well as the financial exploitation of the firm’s vulnerable and at-risk clients.

As a fraud analyst, you will be primarily responsible for investigating cases of suspected financial fraud and the financial exploitation of the firm’s vulnerable and at-risk clients. These investigations are often complex and require not only excellent problem-solving skills, but also an ability to build effective partnerships with internal and externals stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting routine to complex investigations of suspected financial exploitation and financial fraud such as email account compromises, account takeovers, wire fraud, digital payment fraud, check fraud, cyber fraud, payment card fraud, and identity theft consistent with state and federal laws, regulations, and the firm’s policies and procedures
  • Performing fraud risk identification and prevention functions such as suspicious activity monitoring alert reviews, forensic accounting reviews, effective telephone interviews, OSINT research, and reporting to appropriate agencies as needed, while clearly and logically documenting quality case records and results in the firm’s case management system to ensure compliance with recordkeeping requirements
  • Working with internal stake holders such as the firm’s financial advisors, Cashiering, Information Security, New Accounts, Legal, and Service Center departments; external stakeholders such as local and federal law enforcement, adult protective services state agencies, and external financial institutions, to initiate mitigating actions to advance investigations and reduce fraud loss and exposure to clients
  • Consulting financial advisors on identifying financial fraud and exploitation risks, vulnerabilities and advising clients on strategies to better protect their assets and mitigate risks
  • Working with the team to maintain consistent and effective awareness campaigns to both our advisor community and home office employees
  • Providing regular reporting to management on alert and case volume, SAR’s, threats, trends, and ad-hoc projects
  • Preparing and filing suspicious activity reports within BSA and SAR regulatory standards and timelines
  • Staying current on emerging technological and industry financial fraud and exploitation trends by completing continuing education

  • Experience working with external entities such as law enforcement, APS agencies, and regulators
  • Ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and collaboration ability
  • 2+ years of experience in an anti-money laundering or fraud investigation environment in the financial services industry or financial investigations experience in federal, state, or local law enforcement
  • CAMS or CFE certification preferred or ability to obtain within 12-24 months of employment
  • Knowledge of estate planning and trust documentation
  • Knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act, Suspicious Activity Reporting Rules, FINRA Rule 2165, Regulation S-P and related applicable regulations and state securities legislation
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with substantive knowledge of senior or vulnerable adult matters
  • Experience in NICE Actimize a plus
  • Active and valid FINRA Series 7 a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (but not required)
