Housing Works fights for funding and legislation to ensure that all people living with HIV/AIDS have access to quality housing, healthcare, HIV prevention, and treatment, among other lifesaving services.

This position is included in a bargaining unit of Housing Works’ New York City employees represented by a labor union known as the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union (“RWDSU”). Accordingly, the RWDSU has the exclusive right to bargain over the terms and conditions of employment related to this position and this position may become covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement (a “CBA”) between Housing Works and the RWDSU
Compensation Range: $17/hr - $19/hr commensurate with experience
Overview:
The Residential Aide (RA) ensures the wellbeing and safety of the program’s clients and staff during their shifts. The RA provides crisis intervention as needed to maintain residential safety and security. The RA works in shifts of 8am to 4pm, 4pm to 12am, and 12am-8am. Theschedule operates 7days a week, and all holidaysas needed.
Responsibilities:
Primary:
- The RA makes sure that program’s policiesand procedures are enforced and adhered to by program clients.
Secondary:
- Build rapport with program clients and engage with them professionally and respectfully.
- When necessary, de-escalate tense, even hostile, client situations
Other functions that may be required with this position include:
- Ensure the safety, security and integrity of all residents and guests, as well as the physical environment of the facility.
- Conduct periodic facility walk-throughs.
- Always provide excellent customer service and confidentiality.
- Distribute meals to program clients and help unpack and properly store meals that are delivered to site.
- Perform light custodial work consisting of cleaning tables, chairs, minor spills, and removal of trash.
- Communicate with the clinical staff on resident behavior as well as the care of those on the fragile list.
- Provide COVID-19 screening to all visitors, staff, and clients who enter the hotel.
- Always enforce the Residential Code of Conduct and/or House Rules.
Job Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required, and at least one year of work experience.
