Advertised Job Summary
The Admissions Counselor represents the University of South Carolina Sumter to traditional and nontraditional prospective students, as well as their parents, and high school guidance counselors and administrators. The position is located at the University of South Carolina Sumter and covers an assigned geographic region in the state of South Carolina. Travel within the state of South Carolina will be expected as needed. Ability to work evenings & weekends, a valid driver’s license and knowledge of student services in higher education is required. Background experience in admissions, public relations, sales experience or other student personnel area desired. Preference will be given to those who currently live in the existing geographic market and have knowledge of the local secondary schools.
Job Related Minimum Required Education And Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications
Background experience in admissions, public relations, sales experience or other student personnel area desired. Preference will be given to those who currently live in the existing geographic market and have knowledge of the local secondary schools.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of student services in higher education.
Job Duties
Job Duty
Build relationships with prospective students and guidance counselors from assigned high schools within the USC Sumter service area. Maintain relationships through scheduled follow-up visits, campus tours, and consistent outreach via phone and email. Guide qualified prospects through the application and admissions process.
Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 30 Job Duty
Serve as the point-of-contact for prospective students from designated high schools and track admissions progress from initial contact through first-term registration. Notate progress and record all student interactions in the campus CRM. Enter all new inquiries into the campus CRM in a timely manner.
Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty
Follow established communication plans for all assigned inquiries and applicants, and participate in weekly outreach initiatives.
Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 15 Job Duty
Provide counseling and recruit prospective students walking in to the admissions office with interest.

When applicable, participate in appropriate recruitment and enrollment activities including: open houses, regional presentations, training sessions, orientation programs, career days, graduation presentations, etc.

Maintain working knowledge of financial aid processes and basic rules and regulations to accurately answer questions of prospective students, parents, and high school guidance counselors.
