Under limited supervision, the associate director of campus recreation contributes to the success of Campus Recreation by overseeing the aquatics, athletic training, and facilities teams. This position manages related budgets and revenue streams and supervises (directly and indirectly) professional and student employees. This position is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of facility management and projects. This position will also oversee the creation and execution of comprehensive risk management and safety standards and best practices for the whole unit. Additionally, this position is accountable for contributing to a positive, friendly work environment that encourages, enhances and demonstrates collaboration, teamwork, professionalism and equity among staff, students and patrons on a daily basis. This position enhances the quality of students’ experiences and provides exceptional service to the USC community through daily interactions and long-term expectations and goals.

Job Duties

  • Supervision & Personnel Management – Provide appropriate levels of supervision to optimize the effectiveness of all direct reports and ensure appropriate supervision of full-time and part-time employees. Develop expectations and goals that establish a clear path for success and requisite meeting, communication and feedback strategies to promote fulfillment.
  • Business Operations - Support Campus Recreation’s business operations including personnel management and fiscal operations in coordination with shared services. Ensure effectiveness of daily operations of supported areas which may include scheduling, customer service, data entry, documentation, records management, and assisting in the specific needs of the area. Drive success of the Campus Recreation by establishing objectives that align with strategic priorities. Utilizing a variety of reporting and data analysis techniques, develop and implement an assessment plan for Campus Recreation and its individual areas.
  • Facilities & Maintenance - Responsible for the continuous care of Campus Recreation facilities and grounds, ensuring safety, cleanliness and continued operability. Oversee facility related acute and preventative maintenance services, equipment and supplies. Manage projects provided by external service providers and monitor services provided by USC partners.
  • Risk Management & Safety - Oversee all Campus Recreation risk management & safety operations. Verify completion of certifications, trainings, and audits to ensure staff are prepared to manage the facilities safely and administer associated policies effectively. Develop and implement policies and procedures for managing and responding to all forms of emergencies. Manage the functional application of security, access control, building surveillance and weather alert software/applications. Serve as the liaison for the athletic training staff to ensure that resources are allocated optimally, and services are rendered equitably.
  • Fiscal Management - Develop associated budgets, manage expenditures and revenue streams utilizing specified tools. Assist with the development of long-range planning documents and the execution of associated priorities. Ensure all purchasing is conducted within the limits of fiscal authorization and in compliance with associated policies.
  • Student Services - Contribute to the quality of students learning experience and academic success by transitioning students to a campus environment and meeting any specific academic resource needs they may have. Support the development of students' academic and personal goals. Provide opportunities for student engagement within the USC community through all phases of employment.
  • Leadership - Be accountable for contributing to a positive, friendly work environment that encourages, enhances and demonstrates collaboration, teamwork, professionalism and equity among staff, students and patrons on a daily basis. Serve in a senior leadership role for Campus Recreation recommending, guiding and/or implementing organizational-wide policies, procedures, goals, and strategic initiatives that drive growth, continuous improvement, safety, quality and participant satisfaction through program reviews and assessment.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree and 5 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience. This position requires a variable work schedule that will reflect the job responsibilities and needs of the department throughout the year. In addition, this position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies. Current First Aid/ AED / CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree and 6 years related program experience. Has career advancement in Campus Recreation or related field. Has supervised full-time staff. Has experience with Facility Operations, including but not limited to working with Maintenance and Building Services (Custodial) staff, work orders, and preventative maintenance. Has experience with budget development and management. Has experience with project management, special events, and space management. Ability to develop and carry out assessment-related tasks, including data collection, survey tool development, data analysis, and written reports. Skilled with the development, implementation, and assessment of Student Development practices related to student employment. Has utilized management software (i.e., Fusion, DSE) and other operational software (i.e., Connect2, 25Live). Has operated facility-related technology (i.e., PCs, MACs) and audio-visual equipment. Has engaged with associated national organizations (i.e., NIRSA, NASPA, ACHA).
