Position Summary:
The scope of responsibility for this position is to support all functional activities related to the production of biopharmaceutical Systems, Vessels and related equipment. This includes manufacturing, assembly, testing and shipping. The Manufacturing Production Supervisor is also responsible for supporting the company’s Service Business Unit engaged in customer service activities including equipment installation, field service and spare parts supply.
This position directly supervises department employees and Team Leaders in a manufacturing environment. This role plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate and manage all material, labor and facility resources necessary to complete the manufacturing, assembly, testing and shipment of Vessels in compliance with the specified engineering specifications, quality requirements, budgeted labor costs, and committed delivery schedule of each respective project.
- Maintain and report a comprehensive production schedule reflecting allocation of labor resources to all current and anticipated Vessel equipment or service-related projects.
- Coordinate labor resources to support Vessels assembly projects conducted at company’s facility.
- Provides leadership through planning cycle.
- Ensure adherence to and enforcement of all company policies (Safety, Human Resources, IT, or other).
- Conduct employee training as needed to support communication and understanding of new policies or policy changes.
- Performs initial accident / incident investigations.
- Ensures effective employee relations.
- Provides employee coaching and development.
- Makes employment decisions.
- Resolves employee issues through problem resolution.
- Tracks absenteeism and time-keeping including employee hiring and retention, performance review and discipline.
- Balances quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas.
- Works to continuously improve in all areas.
- Manages departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provides regular progress reports to manager.
- Be a driver of process improvement activities in manufacturing-related areas, focused on integration of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma quality principles to produce measurable improvements in manufacturing costs, production lead times and overall product quality.
- Develop a high level of functionality throughout the manufacturing team such that Team Leaders and employees can work with less supervision and more autonomy in day-to-day activities. This includes cross-training and specialized skill development to create a highly flexible workforce whose resources can be shifted to meet the spontaneous needs of the company, be they in-house manufacturing or on-site field service related.
- Drive best practices on shop floor utilizing corporate ERP system to attain efficient flow of materials, effective application of labor and accurate collection of data throughout the entire manufacturing cycle.
- Provide manufacturing cost & lead time estimates to support both project and service-related sales quotations.
- Interface and coordinate with Design Engineering and Supply Chain functions to ensure a mutually acceptable time frame for all technical information and material inputs required to meet cost and lead time commitments.
- Participation in various internal committees, review teams, or similar work groups engaged in either operational or administrative process creation, review or improvement efforts. This includes areas such as Plant Safety, ABBI Support (ERP System), Process Review Board, Strategic Initiatives Program, and others.
- Conduct formal annual employee reviews to provide feedback on established performance criteria and identify areas for improvement and/or additional development/training.
- More frequent periodic reviews may be needed for new or developing employees.
- Will play an active role in identifying and driving Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunity.
- Execute other tasks as assigned

- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Bachelors’ Degree in an engineering discipline (preferably Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Manufacturing Engineering), with advanced degree (Business, Management or related technical discipline) preferred
- Minimum of (5) years’ prior experience in a manufacturing leadership role, preferably involving highly engineered technical products incorporating customized fabrication, mechanical/electrical assembly and machine controls hardware/software integration.
- Consideration will be given to individuals who may not have the specified depth of educational background, but have extensive operational experience deemed to satisfy the overall requirements of the position.
- Ideal candidate would have a background in biotech or chemical industry or experience with welding and grinding applications as well as custom equipment design and manufacturing of similar scale and complexity.
- Certification in Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma is highly desirable, but at a minimum must have substantive first-hand experience in both designing and conducting Kaizen events with demonstrable results
- Awareness of and prior experience with implementing Continuous Improvement (CI) a plus.
- Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. / 23 kilograms
- Typical work is in a manufacturing environment or customer’s site
- Required to stand for long periods of time and may involve heavy manual labor.
- You will need to be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, reach, lift, push, pull, and carry items.
- Exposure to loud noises
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment
