The Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact is a billion-dollar initiative designed to fast-track scientific discoveries and the process of turning those discoveries into innovations that improve the quality of life for people in Oregon, the nation and beyond. The Knight Campus will reshape the higher education landscape in Oregon by training the next generations of scientists, forging tighter ties with industry and entrepreneurs and creating new educational opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students.

Position Summary

The Project Manager for the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact will focus on strategic projects related to community growth, internal community engagement and events, major communications projects that include strategic planning, writing, editing and distribution, and supporting the development of multi-institutional grant proposals such those for student training fellowships, conference support, high-end instrumentation, or collaborative research centers.

The Project Manager will plan, develop, and execute proactive internally focused communications and information-sharing opportunities through close collaboration with the Knight Campus leadership while working to ensure employees and community members are kept informed and motivated. The Project Manager will work closely with Knight Campus leadership to determine opportunities for enhancing communications, engagement, and community-building activities, events, and programs. They will manage all aspects of project development and implementation including preparing and delivering messaging, tracking action items, and communicating progress and outcomes for all projects assigned.

The Project Manager works closely with the Vice President/Executive Director, the Senior Associate Vice President, the Associate Vice President/Chief of Staff and the Director of HR, Finance, and Administration on projects related to the mission, vision, goals and successes of the Knight Campus with an emphasis on improving, celebrating and motivating the internal community. The Project Manager will develop and implement an annual strategic engagement plan that ensures deliberate, creative, proactive, and cohesive messaging and events in support of internal Knight Campus projects, initiatives and priorities.

The Project Manager proactively handles required tasks, works independently, shows consistently sound judgment, and has a demonstrated ability to manage, understand, and communicate complex information to a diverse audience and through a variety of media. The Project Manager will regularly interact with Knight Campus leadership, faculty, staff and students, and is expected to embody the Knight Campus culture of inclusion and use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to collegially execute on duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Four years of experience as an executive assistant, administrative analyst, researcher or administrative officer which included administrative duties, provision of technical assistance, or operations review. Two of the required years must have included administration or oversight of an on-going project or program.

A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration or a closely-related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience. There is no substitution for the two years of administrative experience.

  • Ability to provide communications counsel and support for an executive or institutional leader.
  • Ability to adapt tone and voice to reach intended audiences.
  • Experience in creating and managing communications plans or strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education setting, preferably in a role communicating to enhance collaboration and increase motivation.
  • Experience in storytelling and creating experiences in a professional environment.
