Athletics Communications Assistant (10 months)

The Athletic Communications Assistant works to support the mission and integrity of the Johns Hopkins University and the Athletics department. Demonstrating adherence to the department philosophy, facility and staff schedule, equipment and facility maintenance expectations, communication responsibilities is essential. The strongest candidates will have a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment and a strong history of building and sustaining relationships with staff, student-athletes, and coaches. This position reports directly to the Associate AD/Director of Sports Communiations and is a full time, 10-month appointment, funded annually from August 1 through May 31 with renewal possible.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- The assistant will serve as the primary contact for several sports, which could include women's basketball, baseball, women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and track and volleyball.
- Primary responsibilities include designing and writing of publications, writing press releases, compiling team statistics and records, reporting to conference offices and assisting with game day and press box operations.
- Assist the Digital Media Coordinator with a variety of video initiatives, including video board operations, live streaming and the production of video highlights and features.
- Maintains healthy working relationships with members of the Johns Hopkins Athletics Department staff and student-athletes.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Sports Communications.
Physical Effort/Environment
- General office, athletic facility, and campus environment.
- Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary.
- Walking, standing, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 50 pounds in coaching and training situations is required.
- Computer usage involving repetitive and/wrist motion is required.
- The position will be a full-time, ten-month appointment, with frequent evening and weekend work required throughout the year with those dates determined by a supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Previous experience working in an athletic communications office.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Proficient with word processing and desktop publishing software.
- Working knowledge of video editing software and understanding of college athletics.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Working knowledge of NCAA Live Stats and Stat Crew is preferred.
