Required Qualifications
- Advanced Degree in Biomedical Sciences.
- Experience working in a research laboratory.
- Experience with flow cytometry analysis, working in vitro (transfecting and silencing genes).
- Experience in Western blots and RNA expression analysis.
- Experience with animal handling and performing mouse studies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience giving scientific presentations, writing manuscripts and participating in grant application preparation.
- Prior experience with data analysis and preparation of figures describing research results.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Must be comfortable working in environments that may include close contact with animals, animal byproducts, and related materials.
- Exposure to varying temperatures, outdoor environments, and potential odors or airborne particles related to animal care.
Assisting with the research in the Hilakivi-Clarke lab, this individual will be primarily assisting higher-level researchers and Postdoctoral Associates in their research projects by studying the impact of maternal obesity on offspring’s cancer risk, personalized diet and breast cancer risk, and the mechanisms mediating the adverse effects of social isolation on breast cancer risk and other non-communicable diseases. For these projects, the individual will be performing studies in mice and mouse tissues that will involve studies investigating the connections among the gut microbiome, immune responses, and breast cancer. The lab also performs nutritional clinical studies and the position will support work studying human circulating immune cells and assessing changes in the levels of cytokines and other markers of non-communicable diseases in human blood samples.
