Specific Duties Include
Typically, the Restoration Educator teaches primarily in Wave Hill’s Woodlands and Ecology Building (only accessible by stairs). There are three stone sets of stairs to enter the building and two indoor sets of stairs into the classroom space, totaling 28 stairs. When outdoors, the Restoration Educator should expect to traverse all of Wave Hill’s Woodlands, both on and off path. When not teaching, Educator may work in shared youth programs office space with other members of the team.
Schedule and Salary
This is a seasonal position paid by stipend, with flexible orientation in June and teaching two days per week in July and August. This position will receive a stipend of $5,000.

- Supervise and instruct a group of 30 students
- Implementing all aspects of the course including teaching lessons, leading in-class activities, evaluating students, and conducting general course administration. Course implementation can occur in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve field trips off site.
- Managing Google classroom course content.
- Coordinate student’s summer-long final projects that incorporate field data collection and analysis with concepts learned in class.
- Work with the Youth Programs Manager on adjusting or updating course curriculum when necessary.
- An undergraduate degree in Biology, Forestry, Environmental Science, or related natural sciences field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Familiarity with ecological restoration and natural areas in and around New York City.
- Experience working with teens or young adults in a formal academic setting.
- Must be enthusiastic, organized, have strong interpersonal skills, and be flexible in handling different situations.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Suite .
