Reports To: Program Director and/or Assistant Program Director
Program: Comprehensive Afterschool Program
Location: M.S. 267K-Math, Science, and Technology
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Status: Part-Time. Eligible for NY Safe and Sick Leave
Schedule: Monday-Friday; 2:15pm-5:45pm
Pay Rate: $25-$35/HR (commensurate with experience)
What We Do
At LEAP, we believe in the transformational power of the arts. We began as a grassroots movement with four schools and now serve 25,000 youth across over 140 NYC public schools. Our educational arts programs promote engagement and build critical skills in underserved communities.
Job Purpose
We seek passionate, experienced Activity Specialists for arts and academic integration in our partner schools. Candidates should have experience in their specialty, ideally in NYC public schools, and a belief in experiential learning.

- Lead experiences that drive student growth in creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking.

- Support learners to make meaning of their experiences through thoughtful reflection.

- Build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and school partners.

With Peers through LEAP Professional Development
- Join the LEAP community through foundational training.

- Support your practice through artmaking FREEPLAY Labs.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Arrive on time and follow the program schedule.
- Plan and implement engaging lessons combining arts and academics.
- Establish and deliver clear lesson objectives following the LEAP format.
- Prepare the classroom and materials prior to activities.
- Promote positive character development and a love of learning.
- Collaborate with group leaders to ensure program safety.
- Assist children with daily homework assignments.
- Make LEAP a visible part of the school community.
- Aid in organizing student performances and events.
- Gather student data and teaching documentation.
- Collaborate with the daytime school community and parents.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years of experience working with youth in a classroom or group setting.
- Demonstrated excellence in specialized instruction.
- Experience instructing youth in the arts.
- College degree in Arts or Education, or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners.
- Passion for inclusion and advocacy in the arts.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Punctual, responsible, resilient, and reliable.
- Proactive, efficient, and able to problem-solve.
- Flexible schedule and willingness to travel to multiple boroughs.
- Able to pass all NYS SACC clearances and background checks.
