Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician performs a variety of duties and technical tasks structured to assist the pharmacist, patients, and other healthcare providers. These tasks are designed to support the medication distribution system for hospital patients.
Example Of Essential Functions
Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups:
Light Work - Lifting up to 40 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes and/or carrying up to 40 pounds, or requiring walking or standing to a significant degree (about six [6] hours a day).
Ergonomic Risk Factors
Repetition: Repeating the same motion over and over again places stress on the muscles and tendons. The severity of risk depends on how often the action is repeated, the speed of the movement, the required force and muscles involved.
Working Conditions
Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Risk: Category B – MAY have exposure to blood or body fluids.
Reporting Relationship: Reports to Supervisor

The Pharmacy Technician performs a variety of duties and technical tasks structured to assist the pharmacist, patients, and other healthcare providers. These tasks are designed to support the medication distribution system for hospital patients.
Example Of Essential Functions
- Pharmacy Technician is responsible for providing services in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Supports the medication dispensing practice through accurate preparation of doses, delivery of medications via computerized tube system or hand delivered as needed, maintenance of Pyxis stock, CII Safe, and processes discharges and transfers.
- Performs stock billing functions.
- Assures that medication stock is in date and not deteriorated through monthly assigned checks. Repackages medications supporting the unit dose systems.
- Assists with monthly cleaning and disinfecting clean room per established procedure.
- Self-directed to work in an efficient and organized complying with hospital policies and procedures.
- Performs all duties of Pharmacy Technician under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Participates in continuous process improvement initiatives.

- Buyer/Inventory Controller

- Minimum expectation for all Pharmacy Technician I within 12 months of hire date
- Basic computer/keyboard skills (including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and a good understanding of medical terminology are required.
- Must be able to participate in all aspects of drug distribution, communicate with other hospital employees, and prioritize work based on acuity/need.
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- Registered Maryland Board of Pharmacy Technician is required.
- National certification preferred.
- Entry level, new Pharmacy Technician with limited or no experience
- As of transfer from Trivergent in December 2020, requirement of IV room training is not required. However, on a move forward basis all Pharm Tech I’s must have base competency of IV admixture preparation – minimum competency in development.
