SUMMARY

Working under the direct supervision of the Tennis Coordinator, incumbent implements the Tennis Program. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with the City safety rules and operating regulations, policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Instructs lessons;
  • Supervises leagues, tournaments and special events;
  • Maintains tennis courts as necessary.
  • Encourages and motivates children to attend on a regular basis;
  • Records accurate daily attendance reports;
  • Collects and compiles program evaluations at end of each session;
  • Maintains safety for each participant during the time they are participating and maintains discipline.

The incumbent is responsible to manage their performance in accordance with this job description and the performance expectations provided to them by management. Management will work with the incumbent, as needed, to ensure performance expectations are clearly communicated and performance goals are achieved.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One or more years of experience in Education, Recreation, Sports or a field related to working with the sport and children;

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

  • Must have transportation available at all times;
  • Must have good leadership, organizational and communication skills and have good rapport with children ages 18 months – 12 years;
  • Must work until completion of programs.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Indiana drivers license if using City vehicle
