Overall Purpose
The job of Paraprofessional - Special Education involves providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning learning environment for special education students from Pre-K through K12. This role supports special education instructional programs and resource materials, and may involve working in classrooms, offices, media centers, or with students individually or in groups, as needed by classroom teachers.

Essential Functions
- Administers achievement and diagnostic tests as directed by the teacher to support the instructional process.
- Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments and training for daily tasks, reinforcing learning concepts, and helping students achieve academic goals and social skills.
- Implements independent study, enrichment, and remedial work, and manages daily physical cleanliness for students.
- Maintains classroom equipment and supplies to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Monitors students in various settings to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Reports observations and incidents concerning specific students to appropriate personnel.
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns.
- Supports classroom teachers in implementing appropriate behavior and curriculum.

- Performs other related duties to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
Competencies
- Skills-based Competencies: Requires operating office equipment, maintaining records, adhering to safety practices, and administering first aid.
- Knowledge-based Competencies: Involves basic math, understanding of instructional media, safety practices, and educational laws and regulations.
- Ability-based Competencies: Involves scheduling activities, working with diverse individuals, problem solving, and maintaining confidentiality.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED equivalent, at least 21 years old, Paraprofessional license or passed assessment.
Physical Requirements
Includes occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and significant fine finger dexterity, with 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing required.
Continuing Education/Training
Maintains all licenses and certifications.
Clearances
Criminal Justice Fingerprint, Background Clearance.
