VP of Information Technology

Under the supervision of the EVP, the VP of Information Technology will direct the Credit Union’s IT-functions of the credit union. The ability to collaborate cross-functionally within the organization through relationship development and exceptional communication will be essential to the continued success of the organization’s focus on transformation. The VP of Information Technology is responsible for developing and implementing secure and innovative solutions ensuring system uptime standards are met, work closely with third party providers, suggest cost savings direction and income generation concepts. Being part of the Credit Union's Leadership Team, the VP of Information Technology will also assist in driving the Credit Union's strategic plan, working collaboratively to control risk and develop an inclusive work experience.
Essential Functions
- Participate in developing the strategic plan by reviewing membership needs and expansion opportunities, capital expenditures and competitors' activities in local market. Defines non-financial goals and incorporates them into the strategic plan. Acts as trusted advisor to the EVP and BOD on developing future credit union strategy.
- Direct, plan, organize and control all activities of the IT functions to ensure the effective, efficient, and secure operation of all systems. Serve as IT expert for credit union. Initiates research and implements actions required to be proactive in assessing business needs for all areas of the credit union. Design and customize systems and platforms to improve member and end user experience.
- Works closely with the executive team to research, recommend and implement innovative product/service offerings.
- Proactively work with all management/designated personnel to ensure that systems and services are meeting/exceeding expectations. Identify system deficiencies and implement corrective action in a timely manner to ensure superior member service.
- Develop and implement long range strategic plans to address the evolving information processing needs of the Credit Union and its members.
- Research and recommend current and future technology updates for alignment with credit union organizational and strategic business goals. Includes investigation and analysis of expanded uses for data processing applications, or changes and alternation of data processing/telecommunication hardware and software.
- Implement and maintain measures that provide the highest level of security for all technology systems. Required to follow all regulatory agencies and credit union policy and procedure. This includes internet applications and any other devices that link data processing applications and information to members and outside third-party vendors.
- Develop and direct the credit union disaster recovery and security plans related to information technology. Periodic review and testing for the plans are required to ensure they remain viable and functional.
- Budget, manage, and control expenses for all Info Tech related vendors ensuring data security, service level agreements, and service delivery standards are met.
- Responsible for data security, system security, and provides administrative function audits on domain administrators and other IT personnel.
- Work closely with Internal Audit and Risk Management to understand, mitigate, and remediate risks within the credit union’s operating environment.
- Provide oversight of technology and system related vendors and partners, holding those providers to the same standards of compliance for the Credit Union.
- Resolve risk-related findings related to information technology to create additional risk mitigation processes, policy, and procedures.
- Provide leadership, transparency, support and actively communicate, collaborate and cooperate with team members at all levels of the organization.
- Responsible for continued training and development of IT staff, with appropriate coaching, monitoring progress, cross-training, and accountability as needed.
- Responsible for promoting a department that communicates and interacts well with internal/external support areas and initiatives.
- Partners with senior leaders of each functional area to align service and performance with organizational goals and objectives and ensure a seamless experience across functional areas. Actively and consistently collaborate to identify and implement simplified/efficient processes and encourage retail member service standards.
- Serves as the principal advisor to the EVP on all issues associated with systems, deployment strategies, security, and user support.
- Work closely with third party providers, demonstrate effective risk management with third party providers, and direct and assess requests for proposals for various contracted solutions.
- Develops a future roadmap embracing modern infrastructure and scalability while controlling expenses.
- Oversee department’s vendor relationships, creating an atmosphere of partnership, ensuring contract requirements are met and all services are fully utilized.
- Ensure the Information Technology area complies with regulations, remediates audit findings, and continues to assess risk posture and security counter measures.
- Ensure internal policies and procedures are being followed within the IT department.
- Use professional, well-developed interpersonal skills to project a positive image as a representative of the credit union.
- Provide leadership on the Credit Union’s Business Continuity Plan.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Industry related certifications a plus.
- Requires a minimum of 8 - 10 years of experience in Information Technology leadership in a financial institution, preferably credit unions.
- Requires at least 5 years of managerial experience in a professional capacity, preferably in the financial industry.
- Experience with technologies such as Azure Cloud, VMWare Suite, Mahalo, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Server, Microsoft SharePoint.
- Expertise and fluency with risk management, IT Security methodologies, networking, project management, SCRUM/AGILE solution building.
- Superior oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship skills with the ability to foster the growth and professional development of the Information Technology team.
- Knowledge of applicable Information Technology regulations – Federal, State and NCUA.
- Creative and strategic thinker with excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
