Operations Associate I
Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona
Function: This position is primarily responsible for supporting general production operations, warehouse housekeeping, shipping, and receiving functions as needed for the Community Food Bank (CFB).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Unloads and loads trucks using standard warehouse power equipment, including electric pallet jack and forklift. Operates a forklift, rider jack, and electric pallet jack and performs daily tasks in compliance with CFB safety practices.
- Maintains a clean, organized and safe work area in compliance with all health codes and CFB standards applicable to food acquisition, storage, and distribution. Works as a team member with all CFB staff and departments.
- Maintains good housekeeping practices in all assigned areas daily, including the baler and warehouse area, walk-in coolers, and equipment. Recycles cardboard, plastic, wood, shrink wrap, and paper per CFB standards.
- Pulls and stages orders for pickups and deliveries. Tags and stores products according to CFB practices.
- Assists in stocking, staging, processing, and distributing food.
- Performs assigned tasks making sure the product is distributed based on FEFO and FIFO to ensure maximum distribution at the maximum product quality. Conducts cycle counts and monthly warehouse inventory in accordance with CFB guidelines.
- Ensures compliance with and monitor all aspects of food safety, including proper handling, sanitation, temperature control, and documentation.
- Cross-trains in all warehousing areas to provide backup for absences and support based on work volume. Assists with monthly inventory as needed. Processes inventory transactions in real-time, ensuring constant accuracy.
- Identifies and reports any safety risk or safety incidents, including product damage, to your supervisor.
- Responsible for accessing, understanding and following documented procedures, including completing daily tasks, in the CFB Food Safety Written Programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to obtain food handling certification within 30 days of employment.
- Ability to become forklift and other warehouse power equipment certified within 60 days of employment.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
- Ability to take direction, ask clarifying questions, and execute assignments.
- Ability to handle interruptions, maintain a focus on tasks and produce timely and accurate work.
- Ability to work with people from diverse economic, social, and political backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Available for occasional nights and weekends for inventory management.
- For company insurance purposes, at least 21 years of age; possess a current Arizona Drivers License with a safe driving record.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if applicable and must be directly related to the functions and body of knowledge required to successfully perform the job.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year of experience in a fast-paced, complex work environment demonstrating organizational and follow-through skills.
- Proficiency in email and other technological communication and/or recordkeeping systems.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Physical Requirements:
- Medium Work - which involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work.
