GWC mobilizes internal and external experts to aid in capacity development and the assessment, design, implementation, and monitoring of projects that serve water sector organizations in low- and middle-income countries.

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? 

GWC is a dedicated international nonprofit committed to eradicating the water crisis. We strive to make a positive impact on communities around the world through our innovative programs and partnerships. 

 

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Human Resources to oversee our human resources functions across our international operations. This role will involve managing HR strategies, policies, and practices, particularly in collaboration with our Professional Employer Organization “PEO” and Employer of Record “EOR” partners, to ensure compliance, efficiency, and employee satisfaction. 

 

 This hybrid remote-office position is based out of North Charleston, SC. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

 Strategic HR Management 

  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the Global Water Center’s goals and mission. 
  • Collaborate with leadership to foster a culture of inclusivity, engagement, and professional development.  
  • Executes the company’s Human Resources responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards. 

PEO Collaboration 

  • Serve as the primary liaison with our PEO to manage HR services, including payroll, benefits, compliance, and employee relations. 
  • Ensure PEO services meet the unique needs of our international workforce. 

Recruitment and Onboarding 

  • Oversee global recruitment efforts to attract top talent for various programs and initiatives. 
  • Design and implement effective onboarding processes to ensure a seamless transition for new hires. 

Compliance and Policy Development 

  • Ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations in all operational countries. 
  • Develop and update HR policies and procedures to reflect best practices and legal requirements. 

Employee Relations and Development 

  • Support employee engagement initiatives and address any issues or concerns that arise. 
  • Maintain and expand training and development programs to enhance team skills and performance. 
  • Build strong employee relations and foster a positive work environment. 

Performance Management 

  • Implement performance management systems to evaluate employee contributions and promote career growth. 
  • Guide managers on performance evaluations and feedback processes. 

Contract Management  

  • Manage independent contractor agreements, ensure compliance with policies, foster vendor relationships, and evaluate contractor performance.


QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) Senior Certified Professional Certification preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of HR experience, preferably in an international nonprofit or similar sector. 
  • Proven experience working with PEOs or similar outsourced HR service providers. 
  • Sound knowledge of employment laws and regulations in multiple countries. 
  • Proven experience in contract management, negotiation, and strong analytical skills. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment. 
  • Proficiency in HR software and tools; familiarity with TriNet, Globalization-Partners, BambooHR, Smartsheet, Microsoft Office Suite, Talent LMS, and Jobma is a plus. 
  • Fluent written and spoken English required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Ability to safely lift a minimum of 35 lbs.  
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, stand, walk, type, carry, kneel, ascend, and descend stairs, and bend.  
  • Ability to work primarily indoors with frequent work outdoors in multiple types of weather / environmental conditions.  
  • Ability to work outside the normal Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM workweek if needed. 
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed.
