Job Description
The Trauma Program Registrar is responsible for collecting, abstracting and coding data for trauma patients and entering in the State Trauma Registry. The Trauma Registrar works both independently and in collaboration with the trauma program manager, trauma medical director, and other members of the healthcare team and the management staff. He/she ensures adherence to data management protocols set forth in order to maintain trauma status. Works with billing in regards to trauma coding and medical records. Acts as EMS liaison, gathering data for PI review and assisting in inventory of Emergency Preparedness Supplies and training drills. Assists with quality control activities, information requests, and quality improvement studies as requested. The Trauma Program Registrar is self-directed and self-motivating, plans and conducts work with minimal direction, and reports the progress of work to the Trauma Program Manager.
Education
Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing RN. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Experience
Required: One (1) year of clinical/acute care experience. Preferred: Experience in trauma, emergency, and/or critical care. Preferred: Experience in coordination, education, and clinical program development. Preferred: Proficient in medical terminology, data entry, and computer skills.
License/Certifications
Required: Current licensure in professional nursing from the New Mexico State Board of Nursing or compact RN license. Required: Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC. Preferred: AAAM AIS Coding Course within 1 year of hire.
